Ok, here is another attempt at keeping my AOR format. This instrumental is my response to too many years of listening to Santana while Chester Thompson was in the band.

The cool thing about this track is that it was my first attempt at inserting drum fills from another songwriting software. It was largely because I don't know how to get BiaB to do a drum fill without the other instruments. If there are any BiaB gurus that can help me learn how to set up drum solos I would truly appreciate it.

The Berg

Cheers!

AOR format?? (you lost me there)

I can't offer any tips for the drums, but what you did in this song seemed to work well!

And you certainly did a nice job of approximating the Santana sound

Great guitar and nice tune. I would cut the piano a bit, maybe even reduce the no. of notes on the piano if you can it seems to comptete with the guitar to me. JMO.

I agree with Ed about the piano.

You did a super job on the drums and you did a fantastic job with your axe! Good chops man!

Did you use Jammer for the drum fills? I use Groove Monkee's midi drum files to augment and/or replace BiaB drums in many of my songs. I also write some drum parts, mainly fills, in Sonar.

Another suggestion I could give would be to end with your guitar. It sounds very good in the song and I think it would be a better fit for the ending, IMHO.

Keep up the good work.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks guys for listening.
AOR is my response to the MOR (middle of the road) but mine is called, All Over the Road. I like a variety of genres and styles. One of the reasons I enjoy Biab so much is that it gives me a broad canvas of styles and solos to work with.

Yes, I thought about the piano being over the top. But, I was shooting for a busy sound in that part to compensate for the lack of percussive instruments available. And for the particular Santana style I was going for is where there is all this busyness in the song and the guitarist just hangs on a simple note or two. I really wish I had my rig to set up for feedback sustain. Hit a note.. catch the loop... and hang out a while. But, with an in-ear PC recording system I am sacrificing for compact.

Thanks!
RickeG

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
