Just done this v5 quick review / tutorial (in Spanish, but with English subtitles)
I wish this tool had existed 20 years ago, it would have saved me countless hours of work. Nice tutorial. Agreed, 20 years ago, this would have been very nice. Although I like the workflow, this doesn't appear to do anything that I can't do in a few other apps including Logic 12 (which I own but haven't had the time to test yet). Not sure that the refined workflow is worth $100 to me nowadays.

Jeff I do have all of these programs and I admit I have not had time to really give SMP a good trial run. But Fender Studio One has just upgraded the stem splitter as well and I don't think SMP did any better job when I tried it on one song. There might be some minor things that SMP has but Studio One can do pretty much anything this can and a lot more of course. I do think it is a nice program and does have a market for certain workflows.

Questions.
does smp or new fender or any other app do the following....
1..one loads a stereo audio into it...
and not only does it detect chords/key/tempo etc etc BUT THEN enable one to create midi traks similar to the style of the audio ?
and lined up with the audio ?
2..same as 1...ie load a audio stereo but then import say from bb or rb midi and audio traks and then app detects what doesnt line up with the stereo audio already imported and corrects thus lining all up ?
3..same as 1 but this time i record a new trak useing the audio already imported but the newly recorded trak is off in parts...will the app correct so all lines up ?
there are various other scenarios like i stem split in the app...but some stems are not up to par. can then one tell the app to remodel the stem..
ie now a high audio quality stem is created.
for example lets say the sax stem isnt high quality...thus remodel useing AI.
before someone jumps all over me...i KNOW these are tough needs...
but i'm looking for feedback from people who have used the 'state of the art'
apps as to whether any app meets these needs...or how far the state of the art has come.

I don’t know #2 or 3.
Pretty sure the answer to the end of #1 is No. You get MIDI that is representative of the actual performed audio in a stem. I think you would need a different program to create a style from that.

I don't use Fender Studio Pro and I didn't know the program has all those features, which seem really interesting and useful, as well as very well implemented. However, FSP is mainly a DAW with analysis and track separation features, whereas SMP is a program specifically designed as a song learning and transcription assistant. In that sense, I think the workflow of both programs is very different; FSP is a complex program mainly aimed at music producers, while SMP, much easier and simpler, is for musicians who simply want to transcribe or study a song, with features specifically designed for that (like phrase or key trainer) .
I think both are really interesting depending on your needs.

Very nice to have the new midi editor and option to export the midi notes in MusicXML together with the new stem splitter.
(I know it can all be done in the scoring software via midi, but I find it very useful to have it here in SMP).
Seems to work vey well and simple with the new editing tools resulting in a fast result and a very clean notation

Haven’t heard anything. Haven’t looked either.
A quick question about playing tablature, if you don’t mind. I understand the theory and always wondered if there could be some mathematical analysis of playing a passage that would result in the least finger movement. My question is, are there cases where this is not what you want? Where finger patterns are better even if there is more total ‘reaching’?
For example, you might look at a trumpet player and assume any of the three valves is equally easy to play. Any pro trumpet player who says they are is lying. The first and second are far easier than the third, and it’s a good thing the third is used less. However, I often use alternate fingerings in quick passages where the total movement is easier. Hard to explain unless you play. Woodwinds are a better example, with all the two pinky fingers are expected to do. Fourth finger is the worst.
Anything like that in the string world? I don't know if there is any software that will do a mathematical analysis of the best position to play a solo note piece on the guitar for example, but when I do look at tab, I am always trying to figure out where it will fall more naturally under the fingers without jumping around the fretboard like a demented spider. Then there is the added thing to take into consideration where it will sound the best, as the same note but on different strings will sound somewhat different in tone Musical Timbre maybe. +1. Stringed instruments afford the ability to find a certain note (pitch) in more than one spot. Each selection provides a different timbre to the note and often different harmony options. On a guitar finding where a melody (and harmonization) lies "best" is both a great exploration and sometimes frustration. Learning to play an arrangement (especially with harmonies) in 2 or 3 different places is a capability on guitar that definitely separates the men from the boys. Sometimes when learning a guitar cover, you may have to fiddle with where you play it to more closely approximate how a particular artist played it. Just playing the notes correctly is, at some level, not enough. It's got to feel like Carlos Santana, albeit with your personal sauce.
