I'm quite sure that this isn't the correct forum for this question, but I'm using Playable Real Tracks in BIAB, so I have questions about the MIDI files used in Playable Real Tracks.
I'd like to edit the MIDI notes generated in Playable Real Tracks to potentially make the phrasing, dynamics, and note lengths seem more realistic. I've got a MIDI file that I've imported, set the track to a Hi-Q MIDI Patch, but am finding that I need to edit the notes a bit to make them sound a bit more like a real player. I'm doing this in Piano Roll, by stretching some of the notes, or shortening them, maybe moving them slightly off the beat. I'd like to also change the velocity on some notes, and it seems like there's got to be an easier way to do this than Piano Roll.
What's best for editing MIDI files in this way? Maybe I'd be better off trying to do this in Real Band? Or is there a better MIDI editing tool outside of BIAB? I'm thinking that this might be a question for Bob "Notes" Norton. Anyone?

I do my editing in my DAW but the procedure(s) is the same. There are only a couple of short cuts to what you are already doing. You can lasso a group of notes and change all of them simultaneously. You can also select different notes via ctrl and left click to change all of them simultaneously. To add realism you can add vibrato via the mod wheel IF your sound source has that capability. If you have a MIDI keyboard controller with assignable sliders and knobs you can slightly change the tone of the instrument via filters and modify the sound a number of different ways IF your sound source has that capability. NOTE that I have those capabilities in my DAW and sound sources. Since I don't use the piano roll in BiaB I am assuming some, if not all, of those capabilities are included in BiaB's piano roll.
As far as I know there is no magic program that will do all of the above easily.

I don't use a MIDI keyboard and so far not really using a DAW. Piano Roll I find to be a bit clunky to edit separate notes, but also if I customize the timing on a bunch of notes, I can't seem to apply that customization to subsequent notes. If I could copy and paste a groove to subsequent phrases, I'd be a happy camper. Piano Roll seems to be not up to that task. Would Real Band offer the editing tools of a DAW for MIDI notes? Real Band is kind of a DAW, right?

I am a bit surprized that you are having these issues. In 2026, PG Music completely redesigned the Piano Roll window, drastically upgrading its layout, visual feedback, and note-editing precision to match the workflow of modern DAWs. Some in the forum highly praised these new features.

These sound pretty comprehesive to me, however I don't do a lot of midi editing and when I do I use Reapers. Are you saying these remain incomplete to get the job done?

OK, "copy and paste a group of notes to different bars". That has got to be there, right? Let me try ...
OK, it is the use of modifiers and short cuts! R-Click, drag to Lasso the selected notes. Then Cntrl-C to copy selecion. Then R-click where you want to duplicate and then from menu paste (new or merge)
Then I suspect you will have to freeze the track so it does not regen.

Well, as far as R-click to Paste, I've got a Trackpad, which means I'm supposed to two-finger click to R-click. However, that doesn't seem to work in Piano Roll.

The only thing I can add is that editing Midi is tedeous and precise work in any Midi Editor. Just as writing and editing into any Notation Editor. Best to use a mouse.

I agree with Dan, a touch pad is going to be challenging. Can you simply add a USB mouse? That would make operations much simpler.

In the Piano Roll window, the left-click activates whatever your currently chosen tool is. By default this is the pen tool which inserts a note, but you can change this to 'Select' either by clicking on the Tool button in the Piano Roll window toolbar, or by pressing the hotkey 2 (the number 2, if you are in the PR window). Under the tool button you can also set what right-click does.

Thanks Andrew, I am afraid, my advising the OP on this was like the blind leading the blind. The new piano roll tools run pretty deep. Not something one can just open and use without study. Yeah, I had figured that part out, but I still didn't know how to use some of those tools. For example, The velocity tool turns the mouse button to a "V", but I didn't know how to change the velocity. I believe that I figured it out; if I remember correctly, I select the note and hit the "+" button to raise the volume by one.
Using the Selection tool for Copy-Paste is a little more challenging.
