song All realtracks, not mastered, still have the count-in, etc. just finished before mastering. I was very careful with vocals to make sure all was ok. Will redo vocals before mastering. I just wanted to make sure all worked together for now.........When on soundclick, the song is listed as "piano one", the song is really "Pretty Girl"........

I can't believe that no one has a comment on my first post. All realtracks, vocals too, lol.

Hey, Wisconsin:

Nice first efforts. Like your use of the sax track. Vocals may be a bit overprocessed. Great to see that you persevered and managed to get the links set up properly... persistence pays.

I listened to all three of your songs. Are you aware that 66% of your material involves shouting at underage women? (Hee hee).

Pretty girl was written in 1979, High Heel Shoes was around 82, I'll Walk with God was back in the 50's. These songs were from girls I knew in high school

As to overprocessed, do you mean the reverb, easily removed, please explain. Harmony is through voice live 2. What are your suggestions?

Yes, sure.... we all seem to use too much reverb, myself included.

Harmonies are fine. That's a nice machine. I have a cheaper TC-Helicon Harmony-M.

Critter,

I also think this is a good first effort and I thought the vocal was good.

A couple of suggestions I would have would be; first that the piano seems too dominant throughout the song, try having another instrument be the backing focus when you start a different verse and maybe the piano shines more in the chorus. Second thing is I'd like to hear a different instrument when the solo goes to the bridge section.

These are JMHO's and meant constructively.

Sincerely,

Greg

Critter since you asked me,

This is a good first effort imho. It's sounds like you're going for a haunting effect with the reverb on the chorus. I'm always a sucker for "oh, baby" with pretty harmonies. But I agree with Daisy on the reverb. You might want to back it off the lead vox just a little bit but keep it on the harmonies there. Greg gave you some good suggestions.

If you're going for a club mix that's one thing but otherwise 5:16 is way too long. The instrumental bridge is right at a min - too long. We used to turn some cover songs into marathons on some nights - grin - but in a listening - not dancing and drinking live club situation - you run the risk of losing your listener's attention with it that long.

You'll get more feedback on the lyrics if you want it by copying and pasting them in when you post a link to your song. (Most of us do good to remember our own. LOL.)

If you're into songwriting, and you haven't already read it, the best book to start with is 6 Steps To Songwriting Success by Jason Blume. You can pick up a used copy on ebay or Amazon cheap.

Hope that helps. Keep at it!

I never thought about time as an issue, I have songs longer than that. "High Heel Shoes" is about the shortest I have. All the original songs I have going are ones I wrote back in the late 70's for the band when we were playing live gigs all over Wisconsin. I will have to do as Greg said and jazz them up a bit with some different arrangements, etc. Thanks for the input, will try and do you guys proud. As for a song marathon, we used to end every gig with "Wild Thing," sometimes we played it for twenty minutes or more. LOL.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
