My love for Jazz has always been close to my heart. The post by Noel96 (Tin Pan Alley) inspired this song. I did the vocals, and guitar. BIAB did the rest. Glass of wine anyone? LOL!

Very smooth, very nice, Marty! I was immediately nostalgic and it's great how one of us can so quickly inspire others.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that we are all badly in need of antidotes to Jay-Z and Lady Gaga (actually, Amy Winehouse is a pretty effective antidote to Gaga, if she ever gets out of rehab/jail).

Nice work... write more. Cole Porter lives!

Hi Marty,

Terrific work! I really like the hook and the way you've worked it. Your skill is evident in all aspects of this song: music, lyrics, performing, arranging, mixing, mastering. I love the sound that you've assembled. I think that you have just demonstrated how talented you truly are. Genre does not define you in anyway!

I don't know how my song inspired you but I'm glad it did. I notice, though, that if my song inspired you, it means that in around 3 days you have composed and mixed this song (I posted my song on the 3rd and it's now the 6th and I'm listening to yours). That's astounds me!!!!! I'm truly in awe.

You've certainly got yourself another gem in this one.

All the best,
Noel

Hello Noel,
Your last song was really super. I truly enjoyed the feel and words you put in the tune. It was the deliver of those elements that inspired me to write this song. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep up the wonderful work.

Small world ain't it.

I knew that had to be someone from BIAB over there with me - telling all our secrets about Real Tracks .

You are not Marty over there, are you??

Dan,
Over on Reaper, I am known as Songsmith. It is a small world. I don't go there a lot, but sometimes a good tip can be picked up that I can use in mixing with Reaper.

Marty,
You have got to be one of the most prolific writers I know - it just oozes out from you! "I might as well be standing on the moon" - what a wonderful visual hook. Made me think of Michael Buble. This would be a great tv/film song. I hope you get it on one of the licensing sites.

Hello Josie,
Thanks for the kudos.... it means a lot knowing it comes from a talent like you. Could you expand on the licensing sites. I have never tried to do anything with my songs. Maybe its time.

Hi Marty,

I have a picture of you singing this in a smoke filled nightclub (my preconceived idea of this style of music)
You have the mix just right as it seems that you are there with an intimate band.
Well sung and a joy to listen to.

Best regards
Michee

Hello George,
You hit the nail on the head. As I was writing this song, I had a small club in mind. I try and recreate the intimate feeling of that atmosphere. My mixes also reflect those things and I do that in all my songs. I guess this comes from, been there and done that. Glad you like the song.

Hi Greg,
Thank you for your input. I have listened to your music and you have a wonderful gift of writing and producing as well.

When I did the guitar ride, I got lucky and did it on the first take. That never happens....usually about 6-8 times. LOL! Same for the vocals. I had listened to Noel do a Tin Pan Alley arrangement and it inspired me to write this song. I get a lot of inspiration from the folks in this forum. Great bunch of people.

Marty,

I don't know if it's the time change or the fact that I satyed up all night playing with RealBand, but my brain won't work yet. Therefore, I can't think up words to say why I like your song. So, I'll just have to echo what everybody else already said.

Nice Job, Marty!

Maybe instead of Noel making his own Tin Pan Alley CD, a bunch of forum songwriters could collaborate and collectively try to market the CD...?

It’s all been said, great song, super vox, fantastic guitar chops and outstanding mix.

As I listen all I can think of is early Martin Mull!

I also agree with the intimate lounge scenario. They are all but gone now, at least where I live. I use to go to those places quite frequently just to listen to music like this. This brought back many fond memories.

Thanks Mario. Those small lounges were great to listen to good music. My Dad was a Jazz guitarist and taught me a lot of the old standards. Much of that has rubbed off in the styles I write. I really like exotic chord structure and use it when I can. I appreciate the listen.

Hey Marty I'm not Josie and I can't add anything more to the kudoes you've already garnered here. Super.

About licensing - there are many who will disagree with me but I suggest you go nose around taxi.com.

As a member you would receive "industry" listings every two weeks covering Film, TV, publishing, recording companies who use Taxi to find material. Without a doubt you should be prowling there. Their site is loaded with info - prepare to spend a good hour researching them. Nothing to lose but time, my man.

Marty - forgot to ask you last night - I don't use Reaper but I have noticed the spatial settings you use - is that Reaper's native plugin? Do you care to share the settings used? I'm wondering if they might transfer to Classic Reverb or Room Machine.

Thanks. Ian

Morning Ian,
I use a verb VST plug in called Ambience by Magnus Jonsson. As far as settings, i just experiment until I get a setting that I like. Just a little trial and error and keep what sounds good to me. As far as the amount of reverb, I usually use it sparingly. Ambience is very in-expensive and is high quality.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
