Stumbled across this tune I worked on a while ago with RB and a number of Real Tracks. As I listened I realised this was not a cover! A very raw original work by me.

The core is a great minor-blues chord progession:

A great example of how BIAB can take a set of chords and create a backing. Just Mix in some Real Horns and great Realbass and it makes for a very nice piece if I don't say so myself .

Uptown Blues

Hey Dan,
Loved the song. I just love this kind of Jazz/blues. Good work and keep 'em coming!

Dan, I really liked that!
Very nice guitar tone and cool guitar break there. Tasteful.
I found the two horn breaks panned too far to the right and left, which made them sound kind of separate from the combo picture in my head, maybe 1 and 11 o'clock instead? Also, I thought the last note of the track ought to ring on for longer and fade gradually to match the mood of the piece, and also make the most of that cool last electric piano motif.
A quality track, thanks!

I appreciate the comments guys. I believe I did have those Horn plays on opposite ends of the stage.

This to me is beauty of BIAB. Chords, Styles, RTs and then add yourself. There is no simpler way of gaining this amount of statisfaction in music making.

Probably better with speakers, but listening on phones, the second trumpet is so far inside my l ear that it is unpleasant.

I guess this is well done, but it's not my kind of thing. I don't see where its going.

I really liked it. I dig that jazzy/blues. Ain't it cool when you find something you like and it's yours? I've done the same thing.

Great job. Not much more to say when I like something. I find no need to disect things.

One thing though, if it's not too unpleasant, could you tell me what style you used?
I really like it. As soon as I heard it I heard things I wanted to do with it.

Jazzmandan, Marc didn't say the song was unpleasant, only that the separation between the instruments at that point was.

The song sounds great through stereo speakers. But when I heard it the first time, I was listening through headphones and I had the same reaction as Marc - it felt painful, because it sounded like the instrument was blowing right into my ear. I just wasn't sure how to tactfully mention it, especially since you weren't asking for feedback on this song.

So to recap: The song sounds great. Stereo mix through headphones where instruments are hard panned - not so much.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I'm using Version 2009, I can't find "_BBBLUES.STY".
1) Is "_BBBLUES.STY" a BIAB Style?
2) Should V2009 have this style? Maybe I'm missing something not having the latest version?
3) Is this because I did not install my realtracks?

Wayne,

Can't honestly tell you where that style came from other than my collection over the many years. But you should be good to go now.

Quick question just from reading the chords: how do you define the difference between a m7b5 and a half-diminished, and how do you enter each into BIAB?

Good question, over the years I have "jazzed- meaning messed" this up. The guitar voicings shown in the chord chart shows m7b5 for both the E and B. Which is what was initially intended. However, when I named the chords I incorrectly called the B a Diminished chord instead of the m7b5. So in the BIAB file, I entered a Em7b5 and for the B I simply added Bdim. And for years I was happy in my ignorance, until one day I got an email for a fellow in Mexico who pointed out the error between the chord voicing and the chord name.

I have never gone back to the BIAB file to correct the BDim to a Bm7b5. But I did recently rename the chord in the chord chart image you see at the top of this tread. Now when I tried to rename the chord in the picture I had trouble with the fonts, so I ended up typing B Half Diminished (same as m7b5).

So to day the BIAB is playing a B Dim, but when I play the chord it is a m7b5. Which brings up the age old question, does BIAB distinquish between a full diministhed and a half diminished. In this piece and to my eears, it sounds the same.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
