This is a song I did using RealTracks/RealDrums and the AKAI EWI USB with the Garritan Jazz Tenor.

Loved it!

You have that EWI USB down pat! That is the best Garritan Tenor I’ve ever heard! Super job.

Two thumbs up.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks for the comment dcuny!

It is easier than you might think. The Aria player and the Garritan sounds that come with it are really first rate and well programmed for the EWI. It takes a bit of practice, but I have gotten good at sax, trumpets (horns), flute, clarinet, and even .... violin. I played a 5:25 minute piece with no rests using circular breathing with the EWI, and it was surprisingly easy to learn (took about 3 weeks).

Anyways, think of it this way, you can learn violin or sax while using headphones... your friends will love you for it :-)

Nice job Jim!
Nice to see another another wind controller player here.
I'm curious about which style that is?

Yes, I would like to know which RealTracks were used, and which RealDrum style.

Hi Mick and Matt,

Thanks for listening. The real tracks/drums used were:

RD: SMOOTHJAZZCOOLSW16^1-XSTHHT,SNRD :
~902: Bass, Electric, SmoothCool Sw16 075, Vernon Barbary
~904: Piano, Electric, Rhythm SmoothCool Sw16 075, Jeff Lorber

I mixed the tracks in Sonar where each instrument track had its own reverb settings and the drums went through a bit of compression to get that "close in" feel. The mix settings had a big impact on the feel of the tracks.

Jim,

Very, very nice work here! Nice relaxing song, very well executed. I agree with Mario, the tenor sounds very realistic. And a good mix to boot!

I'm impressed.

Soft on the ear. Nice arrangement. Is this an original? Love the horn runs!

Thanks Pg,

This is a fairly standard chord progression, but the Sax melody/runs are all original. So in some sense it is an original tune.

I was really surprised how nicely the Sax mixed in with the RT/RD with just a touch of Reverb and Drum Compression to get a nice mix out of this. Also, the EWI USB with the Garritan sounds are nice matchup. This was all played without any MIDI editing.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
