Another little experiment of mine I've deemed worth sharing ;-)
[Link no longer valid]

The BIAB style is: _ASHBURY.STY (Ashbury San Fran Jazz Soul)

I've added a Sax solo in the middle (~~1056:Sax, Alto, Soloist, SmoothJazzCool sw16 100), and the trumpet melody is done using Sibelius and NotePerformer.

It's nothing major, just a small tune, but feedback is always, always welcome - thanks!

I really likes this one James smile It isn’t anything super fancy, but I loved the groove and though you did an excellent job with the horns here. Sometimes less is more, they say!

Got my toe tapping for sure - thanks for sharing!

Great work on this musician17! This is excellent. Fantastic selection of instruments here and the vibe is very appealing. Great tone with the saxophone too really helps keep interest. Well done!

Dear James...

I'll think I'll take the liberty of subtitling "Day Out" as "Time Machine", because it pulled me back into the musical sound of the 70's!

It's got a snappy, upbeat rhythm, courtesy of the Real style you employed, and the trumpet melody is bright, lively, and has a sunrise feel to it. I think you must have worked on the trumpet part quite closely, particularly in the way you handled the subtle volume changes in your attack and release curves, because it approaches the sound of the actual instrument in a surprising number of places throughout the composition.

I never visited the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco, but I believe you definitely channeled the aura of the place and time that it captured the public's attention -- if that's what you were attempting to do, that is.

Carry on your merry, musical way, James. i'll be happy to tag along!!!

Looking up,

LOREN

A very nice tune, musician17. I especially love the way you integrated the sax solo.

Cheers,

Stefan

Thanks again, everyone ... really nice comments!

Loren: much as I'd love to claim credit for it, I wasn't really going for replicating that particular sound per se, i.e. as it relates to the Haight-Ashbury style itself. What I did have in mind was a reasonably clear idea of the sound I was trying to achieve, and found that this particular BIAB style met my needs the most. But it's always great to find out the history of a particular style and movement - I spent a little time online researching this, following your comment, and came away enriched for it - so thanks!

I'll do my best to carry on having fun with music and BIAB ... I'm currently preparing a few BIAB arrangements of some public domain Christmas carols ... so I may post them on here when I'm done? Regardless, the main thing is, as you say, to have fun with music, I think ... so let's hope we all carry on doing that. Cheers once more!

James… I really liked this… Especially the initial basic theme that you stated.

If I had to give you some constructive feedback, it would be that I think the nice pleasant phrasing got lost a little bit with the diminished chords about 2/3 of the way through. I would have just stuck with restating your main theme in various ways.. good results from your experiment though!

Thanks Tano Music so much! You are, of course, absolutely spot on - I did feel, myself, that the initial tune got a bit lost exactly at that point during the song ... but, being the lazy man that I am, I was hoping no-one would notice. Scant hope on here ;-) - so thanks for rightly, deservedly pulling me up on it!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
