OK, there are a couple questions I have in terms of the new features. Lets start with this. What exactly is this intended to accomplish?

New in BIAB 2021
• Auto-Fix "sour" notes - out-of-tune notes in RealTracks will be auto corrected to match chord tones.

Let’s say you have chosen a style and key that certain chords have notes that sound sour to the mix this feature can help “retune that note to fit into the proper key and style structure.

Hopefully there is a video detailing it soon cause it pretty cool

I don't get it.

Why does BIAB put sour notes in a song in the first place? And how is fixing that considered a feature?

Plus, I watched the video and it did not appear to be "auto"!

I will definitely keep my eye on this feature as time goes on to see how it gets applied.

John to the third power, you ask a good question. From the video and what I’ve seen so far it has to do with real track voicing not alway playing every single note correctly. It is being chopped and stretched to function and sometime a note may not perfectly fit the chord. So retune was added to help make those little nasties go away.

John Cubed, every real track is put together from a player recording phrases in chords. I can't see every instrument playing every chord, and when that particular chord is "absent" in the real track, a substitution is made which may not be good IN CONTEXT. The notes are only "sour" out of musical context.

Say I'm strumming along on a C major, and I play a C add9. Most of the time, that would be great. It's very common and "human". Occasionally, though, that added 9th might not be right because of what comes next.

It seems likely that one of the first real tracks (a classic pedal steel) MIGHT not have recorded many chords outside of Cowboy country because the assumption was made that they would be pretty useless. Maybe it didn't record any Augmented chords, for example. I don't know the current state of chording and voicing in RT's, but I have had Real Tracks play some quite sophisticated chords that seem well outside the genres they might mostly be used for.

I could be wrong about all this, but it just makes sense to me from what I've gathered from little peeks into the process.

There are some issues with some real tracks. Of that I have no doubt. This seems like a pretty significant step towards not just "fixing", but giving additional creative control.

OK, I guess that makes sense. But how is it "auto" if I have to detect the problem and then go through a process to fix it?

The auto-mode is shown in the video starting at 7:08. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwNDsLN_E-I&feature=youtu.be
This just sets the track to prevent sour notes, in this case it was set to chord tones and song key scale. And this happens automatically on that track from then on, through additional regenerations or different chords etc.

The other mode is to apply the “no sour notes” feature to existing audio. This can be any audio, for example a polyphonic audio of your own home recording where someone in the band was playing sour (“wrong”) notes. And it allows you to fix it, just select the region and choose the option to correct the sour sounding notes. You don’t even need to figure out what the wrong notes were, or understand music theory to know why they were wrong, just select the region and fix it.

Have Fun!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
