dear pg.
a couple of little biab 2022 wishes.
1. user defined chords for use in the biab chord sheet.
ive noticed over the years , sometimes a user wants a chord possibly not in the list of chords in the biab chord builder set. it might be a dissonant or oddball chord or whatever.
thus i propose the user be allowed in biab to define in prefs up to 5 such chords.
lets call them X chords for user defined chords. the user would , useing a dialog, define the notes in each chord and save the dialog. THEN in the biab chord sheet...eg
c,X1 or X3, d or whatever as per currently or by itself eg X5 could even have a hold or a push/whatever.
ie X chords are treated similarly to normal chords and can have the same properties.
of course this would only be doable in midi. i dont know bout RT's cos i dont know biab internals.
the above feature might save some time by users in notation view or piano roll view entering special chords ?
2. another idea that might be usefull. sometimes i have to spend too much time in the chord builder trying to find the right chord for a certain time slot in a song. most times i know the notes i want in my head, and identify them on the guitar. then i'm left figuring ..what oddball chord is this in the chord builder ?
(i'm not talking simple chords , but extensions etc)
mario was kind enough to point out a site on the net where one enters notes and the chord is displayed.
would it be too much trouble to do this in biab ?
i'm thinking some people might be on holiday somewhere
with no net availability.
best

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I previous reported this to development, but I'll add this forum thread to the report in case if there is further discussion on the ideas here.

User defined chords may not necessarily work for RealTracks since those are made from audio recordings. But it might be a possibility for MIDI tracks.

Likewise the same could be done with RealTracks if PG did a deal with Celemony (Melodyne) so it could be integrated into Biab to work with the RealTracks only during the generate process, not any user added audio track, this way they would still need to purchase Melodyne proper for this.

Yes, it is very necessary, musically, to be able to force a b9 chord to play as a b9 chord, and not have some natural 9ths thrown in there. Or to force a b13 not to play as a 13, etc.

Welcome to the forum, Zmack. Of course it is. But before we can comment on your statement, it would be helpful to know what you have experienced. I do not hear the wrong chord if I use MIDI. I might hear the wrong chord if I use RealTracks AND I have Natural Arrangement turned on, which it is by default. But mine is not on.

So tell us more, because we probably do know the answer, either yes or no or a workaround.

Hi,
I have BIAB 2020 and yes, real tracks keeps playing the wrong harmonies despite what I specify, even when I turn off Natural Arrangement. My issue is that we shouldn't be forced to work around such a weakness/flaw using MIDI. I feel strongly that Real tracks, which is really a stringing together of various chord samples, should be able to play these oft-used chords as written. Or at least we should have a feature where we can force the Real Tracks not to choose a chord with a natural 9 or 13, when we specify b9 and b13.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
