ECHOS

I haven't been online or the BIAB forum for awhile as I have had a recent lack of clients and creativity with vocals and lyrics. This is the first song I collaborated on for awhile. The vocalist is Xtina

Band-in-a-box RealTracks:
Key=C
BPM=80
Bass 1592
RockNortern Drums
Electric Guitar 1598
12 String 1003
Pedal Steel 2542

Hope all of you on this forum are happy, creative and well.

Chicago Bob

Bob,

Nice melody. Xtina has a cool voice (very "today").
A lyric sheet would have been nice. I had some trouble following the narrative because I lost some words here and there. Part of that was due to the bass crowding the vocal occasionally.
The Bass has good punch. In my monitors it had too much bottom. In earbuds it was better (but you might want to roll off the bottom a bit).
Drums sound great.
The build is nice. Cool steel. I think there is a bit of banjo towards the end? ...it was really low in the mix (or maybe I'm just "hearing things").

I thought that the vocal (and BGVs) could use a touch more reverb (the main is especially dry).
And the BGVs seemed louder than the main vocal when they piled up.

Good song, good vocals and nice harmonies, something I like a lot.
For my taste the main vocals are a bit dry, a bit of reverb would make it more coherent with the backing tracks.
But as it is now, it's already pretty good smile

Thanks for the reverb processing feedback as well as the mix tips. Mixing is not my strength so I really appreciate the feedback. I will make the tweaks you suggested

HBi Bob ...

This is a really cool song! Xtina, in a small way, reminds me a bit of Stevie Nicks. I do agree with Floyd that the lead vocal, in a few places, gets lost in the background vocals. I thought the mix, otherwise, was real good.

Really cool song, Bob. Nicely done!

Alan

Darn good song. A listening pleasure.

I like the arrangement. And I especially like Xtina's voice and the harmonies.

Great song and I thought the harmonies were superb icing (just need some levels adjustments as others have already said). I love Xtina's voice, I would sure like to write for that voice. I need a lyric sheet, my ears are just old before their time. I'd love to hear what she was singing about. Terrific return on your part here, hope to hear more from you!

Super intro!

Great vocal and harmonies! I think a little reverb on the vocals would add a lot.

Excellent mix.

Two thumbs up.

Very good reintroduction to the showcase!

As floyd said, Xtina’s voice has a very “today” sound. And those harmonies are tight!

The song has a nice build and a good selection of tracks too.

Well done,

J&B

PS Would enjoy seeing the lyric.

Cool sound. Love the twang of the vocals and harmonies. Nice backing.

A bit unsure about the actual lyrics, but a nice listen!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Such a good write, and I love the way it builds. Yes, a lyric sheet would be much appreciated. What a good band, and good choice on the singer. Excellent harmony. I really like the idea of the song. Echoes. And I like how you developed it. The responding harmony lines are very creative. Loved it, Bob.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Following are the lyrics:hese are the lyrics:

@ Echo’s

Oo, oo, oo, oo
I remember how your eyes lit, as I told you all my secrets
And how it fanned the fires of our love
Through all my muggling feeble struggling, and I needed a gentle push
You were always there to give a shove.
Sitting on the front porch, to ponder songs, the wind is singing across the chimes.
It brings you back before me, and everything that’s with it
I’m grateful. For your gifts and the good times.

Ch: I know, no one promised life was easy. Oo, oo, oo, oo
When I’m down so low, just the thoughts of you can please me. Oo, oo, oo, oo
And it’s time, well past time, that I stake a claim for my find
Past the echo’s of your footsteps , in the hallways of forever.
Grants peace and joy, of my heart and mind

Decades have come and gone, Your ghostly presence is never weary. Oo, oo, oo, oo Comfort full of warmth, it’s what I feel when you are near me. Oo, oo, oo, oo
The world is full of toil and strife, with you it’s always more than pleasure
You taught that living is more than life, and sometimes loss completes the measure

Ch: I know, no one promised life was easy. Oo, oo, oo, oo
When I’m down so low, just the thoughts of you can please me. Oo, oo, oo, oo
And it’s time, well past time, that I stake a claim for my find Past the echo’s of your footsteps , in the hallways of forever. Grants peace and joy, of my heart and mind

The giving of two hearts, Mine is yours and you said yours is mine
I hear music from your footsteps, past the hallways of forever. My joy is merely echo’s, of my heart and mind
Echo’s of my heart and mind
Heart and mind

Great song. I too thought the lead vocal was a little dry, but that is a sweet country voice with absolutely beautiful harmonies. I sure liked the use of the steel as well!

Hello Bob,

In spite of your 'lack of inspiration' you surely did well on this song!
Very pleasant to listen to. And that includes the vocals of Xtina of course.

Still, I think it's a good idea to listen to the advice you've gotten on the forum.
Maybe you can also play a bit with the volume settings of the instruments during the song
That might increase the dynamics of the band too.
But without these advices your song is still enjoyable to listen to, as I said at the beginning of this post.

Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
