Back in March, Floyd put out a song (Lovers' Secrets) with a cute guitar riff, and I told him I was going to steal it. Well, I mixed it up a bit when I started it, but it was fun. I played it on my old Yamaha.

It's about a guy stealing his buddy's riff and his girl, because that's what you do in Nashville. To survive. But for some reason I just can't write love songs like Floyd. I think there may be something terribly, terribly wrong with me.

Sometimes You Have to Steal

By David Snyder

V1

My buddy had a secret chord
He played to make his girlfriend cry
Her name was Dawn
One night after a Bluebird show
I kissed her down on music row
And she said he’s your best friend, so tell me why
And I said

CH

It’s hard to make it right
Working every day, just to make it pay, trying to keep it real
And when you’re hungry living here in Nashville
Just to cut a song or even get a girl
Sometimes you have to steal
Sometimes you have to steal

V2

So I snuck into the Grammy show
Saw Taylor Swift and I said oh no
She won again
So I ran right up onto the stage
Took that award in a fit of rage
Saw the tears in her eyes and she said why
And I said, Taylor

It’s hard to make it right
Working every day, just to make it pay, trying to keep it real
And when you’re hungry living here in Nashville
Just to cut a song or even get a Grammy girl
Sometimes you have to steal
Sometimes you have to steal

And if anyone here knows what I’m saying
Just raise your hands and sing along
