I know. I'm saying there may be a functional equivalence.

Perhaps PG lets a new version "bake" on its website for a while, where we smart users who read forums and download patches can try it out and post detailed, technically savvy bug reports. Eventually the auto-update feature picks the version up, and by then any early problems have been fixed with the help of the early users. Beta testing by another name.

Don't get me wrong, I run all the beta software I can. This situation just strikes me as dumb, and I can't imagine PG Customer Support enjoys having to tell people over and over that no, you have to check yourself, the software won't do it for you, even though it says it will...
