I have a song I have added lyrics to successfully using the bar lyrics layer. I see them displayed there. However, when I go to Big Lyrics window, only the chords appear.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

I have BIAB for Windows, Version 2020 (713), 64 bit version

Hi thc,

The Big Lyrics only works with note-based lyrics. Do display bar-based lyrics, it's necessary to use the lead-sheet display. This can be set so that only chords and lyrics will show.

Noel

thanks for reply but I don't understand. I have tried various combinations related to the phrases you used (bar-based lyrics, lead-sheet display).

Could you please provide step-by-step instructions? BIAB is not friendly without clear steps.

Thanks again!

While I'm putting together and answer to your question over the next day or so, have a look at the below.

The second option about Increasing Font Size is useful to know as this will also control the font size of bar-based lyrics in Lead Sheet view.

I just found out the use of bar based lyrics was improved in the 2021 edition of Band-in-a-Box for Windows.

Per the +++ 2021 BiaB for Windows New Features list +++:
Quote:
Improved Bar-based Lyrics: Bar-based lyrics now display in the Big Lyrics window & you can convert note-based lyrics to bar-based lyrics.

Thanks to Peter Gannon for personally reaching out and bringing this information to my attention.

Interesting. When I tried testing bar-based lyrics with the Big Lyrics window, they didn't work.

I wonder why? I'll have to have a closer look.

UPDATE
I just tried them again and now they are working. They definitely were not working a couple of days ago when I replied to this post because I tested them before replying.

ANOTHER UPDATE
It seems that display of the lyrics depends where the cursor is. This makes sense. I'm guessing that I had my cursor position at bar that did not contain lyrics.

For some reason, though, I'm getting extra chords showing.

The top image shows what happened after I entered the lyrics for bars 1 and 2, positioned the cursor in bar 3 and then opened the Big Lyrics Window.

The bottom shows what I saw if I closed the lyrics window, positioned the cursor in bar 1 and then re-opened the window.

Because I'm not sure why the extra chords are there when clearly they are not entered, I'll report this to the development team.

Hi Noel,

It is working as intended. The extra chords are from the second and third choruses. So they are supposed to be there. I agree it looks a little weird. It's likely looking weird because it was a test song that didn't have chords throughout the form. If you play the song, and let it go to the 2nd chorus, you'll see it highlighting those extra chords. The note based lyrics show up in second and third choruses, so if you'd entered those they would appear under those chords.

We will add the display of the bar lyrics in the second and third choruses too (in the next patch), so that would make more sense.
If you want a custom lyric, that are different each chorus, then it would be best to unfold the song into a single chorus. (or use note based lyrics)

Thanks, Peter.

I should have thought of the choruses and number-of-bars settings.

It's good to know that the error is mine. I was puzzled!

All the best,
Noel
