PG Music Home
I'm currently running BIAB 2020 (426) Audiophile on a mac os 11.6. My DAW is GarageBand 10.4.5. The brick wall I always ran into with BIAB was their DAW plugin not interfacing with GB. The problem was the plugin always freezes when choosing a style. It's message is "Initializing Band-In-A-Box Engine". This issue has PG's customer support stumped.

PG music customer service announced "no more bug fixes for 2020" so I am pinning my hopes on getting the BIAB DAW plugin to work with a BIAB 2021 upgrade. According to customer support they are not aware of any problems with their 2021 DAW plugin and GB.

My two questions are: Will investing in a 2021 BIAB upgrade fix the issue with the BIAB DAW plugin?
and secondly, does any one know how well BIAB 2021 interfaces with OS Monterey if I were to upgrade my operating system as well?
Normally I use Logic but I have Garageband installed so I did a test for you. I am using M1 iMac, Monterey 12.1, Garageband 10.4.5 and BiaB 2021 (515)

The plugin works fine, just as it does in Logic. Hopefully this will be helpful.
Thanks for running the test and confirming the 2021 DAW plugin works on GB 10.4.5!

Generally speaking, did the OS 12.1 upgrade give you any issues with respect to BIAB or GB?
Would it be wise to allow Apple and PGmusic more time to work out the bugs before upgrading both BIAB and my OS?

Thanks again!
I used to have a 11" MacBook Pro running Big Sur but upgraded to the 24" iMac. I already had BiaB on the MBP. I used the auto transfer between the two computers, the iMac had Monterey already installed. Everything went smoothly and all setting were transferred to the new Mac. BiaB worked fine, as did every other piece of software. I did upgrade to version 515, and again had no problems.

Should you upgrade, hard to say, that's a choice you need to make yourself. As there is not a lot of posts from other users having problems on this thread I would suggest nobody else is having problems either.

GarageBand of course will run as it is an Apple product, so no problem there either.
OK. Thanks for your input on this!
If you still feel uncomfortable you can ask your question in the +++ Band-in-a-Box for Macintosh +++ forum section.
Thanks!
I typed in "Band-In-A-Box for Macintosh" in the advance search window. I gave a lot of posts but I'm not sure I'm in the right place. A lot of the issues were with Windows and not mac.???

I asked customer service if I could filter only mac issues and the did not think it was possible in the forum.

Any suggestions??

Thanks for responding!
OK I found the "for mac only" Forum and I posted this issue there. Thanks Jim!
Truyk.

Rosetta?
Yes, open Logic Pro X / GarageBand using Rosetta.
This may be worth noting, but the 2021 version of Band-in-a-Box is not yet officially supported on Mac OS Monterey. Here are the current Band-in-a-Box 2021 for Mac computer requirements. We will update the webpage once Monterey becomes officially compatible: https://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.requirements.htm
Hi - any updates on timeline to support MacOS Monterey 12.3.1?

I had automatic updates set, and now when I try to run BIAB 2021 it no longer runs - does not even open. I'll search around to see if others had the issue, but pretty frustrating.
Thanks,
Brendan

For this issue, please try these steps and see if it helps:

With your Band-in-a-Box closed, please go to Finder | Applications | Band-in-a-Box | Preferences and try deleting the content of the preferences folder, but not the folder itself. Then re-launch the program. This will return the program back to factory defaults. Please be aware that this will delete your program preferences, so if you want to save a copy of these files in a folder on your desktop first, you may. This will allow you to restore your preferences and favourites should this fix not work to resolve your issue.
Hi - I tried that, now I get the error when I try to open:
Unable to open file "...Applications/Band-in-a-box/Data/RealTracksSubs.txt"
Press OK to ignore and risk data corruption. Press Abort to kill the program.

When I press OK, nothing happens, still BIAB is not opening. Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

If you look in your Data folder do you happen to have a RealTracksSubs.txt file present?
I'm just going to do a full uninstall / reinstall, since not sure where to go from here. However since I cannot even launch BIAB, I cannot even disable my user license! Hope that is not an issue.

It likely won't be an issue. But if you run into troubles with activation, please contact us directly through live chat or email sales@pgmusic.com. The few possible activation issues that come up every once in a while are a simple fix.
