I can export the chord list of a BIAB File with File/Print Song Chords and Melody Command (CTRL P), but this can be done only in an image format, not a text file.
I am teaching guitar accompaniement and this would be a great feature in order to mix with the lyrics in a printed form and not a Karaoke Window.
May be transferred in the Wish List ?

Well it depends on what you really want. If it's just a list of chords in text form then you can use the lyrics document window.

Click on the far right hand icon and select "include line based chords and lyrics". Uncheck all boxes except chords and click "Ok copy to text clipboard". The list of chords will appear in the document window. You can then copy and paste them to other text based apps. Or of sourse you can save the file from the document window.

Hope this helps.

IIRC the Lyrics Window can show the chords and we can export to .txt file as ascii using Cut to clipboard and paste to notepad, wordpad or word processor.

I have another interest in the ability to show chords in text format. I have been using BB for a long time to do the first draft of a jazz arrangement, which I then convert to midi and transfer to Sibelius or other program suitable for music writing (preparation of scores). Currently I have to re type all the chords that I need to show in the Sibelius score for comping and soloing purposes. Is there some way I can transfer the chords to Sibelius and show them the same way as they on the BB leadsheet? It would save me a lot of time.

It would also be helpful it I could skip the midi conversion. Transferring the BB file direct would be ideal. Can this be done somehow?

Hi Graham,

The problem lies with the fact that the aging MIDI Standard does not account for Chord Data. Therefore there isn't any.

There is one Chord Data scheme that is gaining in popularity, however neither BiaB nor Sibelius (to my knowledge, I use Sibelius but have not felt the need to upgrade for quite sometime, ver. 4 is still doing what I need here...) can recognize that Chord Data scheme.

Sibelius does contain an algorithm that can "get" chords from MIDI files, much like the Wizard inside BB, but these schems cannot be surefire because it is often the case that there are notes included in MIDI files that are not notes that would be played as part of the chord underneath, such as Melody notes, embellishments, etc. as well as Timing Issues when there is for example a moving note line. The algorithms will identify these extraneous notes as extensions and such and the chord recognition becomes a bit crazy at times.

So, when I transfer from BB to Sibelius, I still have to bite the proverbial bullet, print out the Leadsheet from the BiaB file to paper, import the BB files into Sibelius, and then type the chords into Sibelius. That seems to actually work faster in a lot of cases as versus trying to clean up the MIDI Chord Recognition stuff.

Thanks Mac. That is exactly what I do. Just checking to make sure it was not another area in which I have a knowledge gap.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
