She had one neck surgery years ago for a different problem, and reading up on the Internet, it is not uncommon for the vertebra next to the place where the initial operation was made to get this very problem. It's comforting that they know how to deal with this and it isn't some rare condition that they have no experience with.

But we found out today, they can't do surgery for a month. She has to be very careful. Parkinson's patients fall a lot, and one fall can render her paralyzed from the neck down. She's also on pain pills and with numb hands and feet that increases the risk of falling.

We will be spending some time taking care of her and doing things for her that might be risky.

The surgery itself is risky, but not having it is even riskier.
