Hi,

Hopefully someone can help. My 10.5 realband in the BIAB external drive crashes or locks up whenever I load a midi file and then press play. I get this error:

"RealBand has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

My only option on the pop-up is to click a "Close Program" or search the net and that closes it automatically.

I've emptied my Temp folder. I even tried putting a different path in the options temp folder like ~temp/temp after creating a folder to test because there are some folders in the temp files that the computer browser and Avast and assorted others.

I'm running MME, I'm using the computer's sound card for playback, there is no option fo ASIO.

I'm running windows 7, BIAB plays well with no problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

If you are in the area you describe above, you are in the audio section of preferences; MME, ASIO, temp directory are all in the audio window

Sounds like your problem is MIDI related. Check MIDI Devices under the MIDI tab. Make sure you have the right MIDI driver selected

My first suggestion would be to eliminate data moving through the USB port by installing RB on the hard drive. If it continues I would swap the memory chips in their slots just to see if there is a dead register somewhere, but that is a little extreme.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Hi,

Checked the midi drivers. Midi plays fine though windows. Midi plays in BIAB,

Put on hard drive still does it. Not sure what you mean by switch memory chips, My computer is running fine under a lot harder demands than RealBand.

I noticed that about a 1/4 of the midi files will play now but most still crash RealBand when I press play??

Thanks for your answers.
Gary

Gary,

Do you have the latest Realband update for 2010.5? According to the link below, it looks like Build 2b is the final build for your version.

To check the build, have a look under "Help | About Realband". The build will be in parentheses following the version.

Also, the below image shows my MIDI driver setup. A couple of questions spring to mind.
(1) Are you using DXi/VSTi? (If so, what one.)
(2) What are you using for the Output driver?

Regards,
Noel

Support has reported something that solved weird problems with DXi synths. Even though you may be 'rerouting all MIDI to DXi synth', selecting MSWavetable synth as the driver in the MIDI output selection has smoothed out some driver issues (while leaving the 'reroute to DXi synth' box checked).

Otherwise, make sure RB hasn't defaulted to MIDIMapper or some other generic driver.
Normally MIDI doesn't crash a system. It's pretty light on a system. Unless you have a MIDI loop going on, but that is very unlikely.

Hi,

I took my 10.5 external drive and hooked it up to my xp laptop and RealBand works fine.

So to answer your questions, I tried using Microsoft Midi mapper and my USB midi sport as outputs. I get a window saying my mircosoft GS Wavetable Synth is missing, but it was crashing before it was missing. I think the driver install update for the M-audio USB midi sport threw it out, maybe not, it was not missing a couple of days ago before I put the midisport in.

I'm not using Dxi/VST, I'm just trying to strip the drums off some midi files so I can get them into BIAB

I have Ver B, I'm not sure how to get the update but will look into it.

Thanks,
Gary

Update,

I'm not sure what I've done, because I've tried so many things I can't remember the sequence that led to this BUT my RealBand is working now. Evidently GSWavetable Synth and ASIO were going for the same port.

1. Go to your control panel
2. Click on Hardware/Sound
3. Under "Sound" click "Manage Audio Devices"
4. Right click on any of playback devices and go to properties
5. Under the advanced tab disable everything in exclusive mode.
6. Repeat this for all devices under your "Playback" tab.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
