Hi,
I have BIAB for Windows Ver379. I generated a nice piano part for a new tune, and my keyboardist asked for a printout - he wants to borrow some of the riffs! That was no problem, but I'm wondering if I can get a MIDI version of the RealTracks as well as the notation I printed out.
So, is there a way to either: 1. generate MIDI from the Realtracks version, or 2. get a MIDI track from the PDF file I created of the notation?
Thanks!
- Russ

The answers are maybe and no. The no first, we all wish there was some kind of pdf to midi thing but what that would be is optical recognition, scanning the pdf and having the system somehow translate that into midi. Never say never, people have been working on that but I don't think it's there yet.
However, many of the Real Tracks have midi notation just look at the piano display and if you see notes lighting up that correspond to what you hear, there's midi with it. How did that happen, was it some kind of PG magic? No, it was someone listening to the RT and manually transcribing it, just like students have been doing in music schools for centuries. Then they took the transcription and either recorded it as midi on a midi controller or entered the midi notes manually into Biab. Since you have the transcription already read the help files about how to enter the notes, it's actually fairly easy and fast.

plus: There is a possibility to create a printout, if -- as jazzmammal said -- there is already a transcription made.
Look for RealCharts in the help files and here: Options, Preferences, RealTracks.

Another option is to use Melodyne Editor 2. You can take any audio track and turn it into a MIDI track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ2lWslJVOcThis works for both mono and polyphonic instruments. I have found it to be the best audio to MIDI converter out there even though its main purpose is pitch correction. The down side is that it is quite expensive at around $350 USD.
My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Thanks for the replies! I was completely unaware of the RealCharts option, although I admit I did wonder how I was able to print out the notation for it when it was a RealTrack.
That is the actual answer I was looking for. I'll give my keyboardist a copy of the printed notation and also a MIDI file so he can review the fingerings. I don't know if he'll need that, but it sure couldn't hurt!

Be aware that the notation is created after the RealTrack was made. It is a good approximation but may not be exact.
