Sorry, I misspoke. I always get thrown on the difference between a diminished and a half diminished chord.  As you noted, a Adim7 would have continued the pattern of minor thirds of the diminished (A, C, Eb) by adding the next minor third, which is the Gb/F#. So the term "diminished" in the chord name refers not only to the 3rd and 5th, but the 7th as well. I should have said that the Cm6 also doubles as a Am7(b5) (half-diminished). Thanks for the correction!
