OK, you tell me; what it is the time sig for this song? It can be argued it's a 6/ or a 3/ or 5/ or even 7/ Guess it depends on how you feel it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fnm2Xb0O18 I listened to this while cleaning carpets tonight (fun!) and it occurred to me that it's really hard to count out and visualize. I was surprised to find it on YT but I guess you can find anything there. So, how would you count this? I have no problem 'feeling' it, but 'counting' it is a challenge .. due to when things happen. Each instrument/track seems to feel it in their own time, at least to me. If I was asked to play bass or guitar (or keys) on this I may think of it differently on each instrument. It's one of those rare songs where different time sigs seem to layer over each other and actually 'work'. I love when that happens ..

Wow, you're right Rharv, seems that each of the instruments is using a different time sig. Never heard of anything quite like that...but it works. How do people come up with things like that?

This kind of reminds me of that Talking Heads song (forget which one, unfortunately!) where Brian Eno and David Byrne told each player in the band that the song was 5/4, or 7/4, or 3/4, and had them play all their parts separately to a click track; then just layered the results over a 4/4 drum beat and vocal line.

Wow, a lot of genius happening all the way through that. There's an underlying 3/4 something but that quickly gets lost in the maze of other timings.

It was a find long ago; I have the vinyl from the late 70s early 80s (whichever this one was) and recently found the CD. The youtube link was just a handy way to share. <grin>
I grew up on stuff like this .
I have a couple hundred albums from that era and most people would be hearing them for the first time if they listened to them (this may explain my weird taste for odd time stuff).
I may have an ELO, Yes or Police album they would recognize, but probably not much else.
We had this really cool record store in town when I was growing up (remember those?).
