I know this is February Album writing month, but I was hoping it would be February Cinema Hits Writing month so some film writing experts can tell me if this is what SongTradr is looking for when they say they need movie music. I hope this does not count against my weekly posting credits. https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-mixing-lab/no-oh-god-please-help-meParts: Everything but the kitchen sink and every gadget and effect known to man in the world VST library.

Well.... I'm certainly not a cinematic scoring expert, but I'd say ..... probably .... no.
Leave out the screams.... and the music, while good, needs to have more movement in it. The first 10 seconds is good.... pretty close to what you expect in this genre.... but then nothing else happens.

Herb, I was being funny man...this was a joke.... just in one of those crazy moods man.. But yeah, the first 10 seconds, now that I know I can get "that sound" I will probably try and do something with it, and learn to create all the extra movements and parts and stuff you are talking about... but that will be a year long hobby.... at least I have the first 10 seconds...

Someone watched The Exorcist last night didn't they!
My goal this weekend is to move just enough each day so that no one pokes me to see if I'm dead or not.

Yeaaaahhhhhhh.... Well I have been checking it out and it seems like something new happens every sec, and there is a new instrument or sound about every two seconds, so I made a spreadsheet to keep track of ideas. Looks like it might take about a year to make a 50 sec clip but I will study this a little more. Why can't Band in a Box make an Instant Movie Score Classic Epic Themes Xtra Styles Pak that does it for you????? It just doesn't seem quite fair that you would actually have to do something.

Well I could see it in a corny horror film. Mass murder scene with weapons and body parts everywhere. Maybe an early Peter Jackson squish movie. But I have very bad taste.
Cheers.

I hear ya! I've been using BiaB for a number of years now and they still haven't produced me a hit song! What's wrong with those people?

I did just that Herb. And that is why I made a spreadsheet. I am studying that particular piece and all that stuff that comes in and out in just a few seconds. I will try and make a template to keep track of stuff and teach myself to score this kind of stuff but it is very complicated once you start to analyze it. Kind of its own thing. I don't think this is something I will get the hang of overnight, but I am happy I can manage to get some of "those sounds" at least as a starting point. I can see how it is put together though and it seems it is more of an Everest Climb than just plugging in chords. Kind of like watching my wife doing a cross stitch. Tricky.

Was there a guy in a fedora being chased by a boulder?
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.
1. How much did you make in 2023? 2. Send it to us.

David, It has potential for a movie/cinema track. And yeah, as someone mentioned already, you usually want to avoid th3e vocal spikes and let the movie's sound/music director add his own. For an "in-movie" track, this could be massaged to work okay. However, as a trailer, you would need a different approach. Trailers need to start rather minimalist but yet powerful with more subtle parts between. The subtle parts have to compliment the more forceful strikes. Also, the trailer has to build - both in volume and depth. Over the course of the trailer (usually 30 seconds or 60 seconds, new complimentary layers are usually added. I don't call myself an expert by any definition as I've only had a few cuts licensed. But I did learn that much, for what it's worth. Here are links to several I got licensed, if you're interested or think they might be helpful: 1. Piano Purgatory: https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v3/player.cfm?type=single&songid=5012149&q=hi&newref=1This is an in-movie track - it peaks and drops and repeats that pattern several times. 2. Dancing In Her Dreams: https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v3/player.cfm?type=single&songid=7760129&q=hi&newref=1This one was used to open the first scene of the movie it was selected for. You'll notice it builds in volume and layers and repeats that process several times throughout the duration of the song. This could be used as a trailer but it works better inside the movie. 3. Don't Look Back: https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v3/player.cfm?type=single&songid=7256569&q=hi&newref=1It was used for the tailor as it had several rather quiet spots between the builds. The deeper you get into the song, the more pronounced the percussions become - primarily the timpanis/kettles. For what that might be worth. Wishing you lots of success with your project! Alan

Al,
Thanks for all your help.
Yeah, I have just started on the journey, and at this point, I can see I have the colors and brushes in my "paintbox" to get "those sounds" but now I have to figure out how to piece them together. Again, I do not expect it to happen overnight.
Thanks for your examples.
The second one about the Dancing though, goes to another song. You may want to check that link.
Thanks for giving me some stuff to study!

Wow - I didn't see this coming :P This is unreal! It sounds super suspenseful and absolutely would fit in a movie soundtrack. Plus, it is something really different than what you typically hear out of Band-in-a-Box. Thanks for sharing, David
Cheers, Deryk

I think it would work for a short scene of trout fishing in a clear Colorado creek on a lovely sunny day.
