I badly need to use 12/8 styles for some of my songs. Unfortunately, there are no 12/8 styles included in my Mac version (2017) of BIAB. I suppose I have to create them myself from scratch??? I looked at the style wizard, but it looks complicated (patches and all that stuff). I don't mind investing time in creating my own styles cause I like BIAB, but I need direction in doing this. Can anyone suggest online tutorials I can go to, particularly for the 12/8 drums stuff? Thanks!

BIAB doesn't support 12/8 styles explicitly. It uses tripletized 4/4 styles instead.

Which package do you have, because I'm pretty sure there are a number of 12/8 styles (at least in the UltraPak)?

I use Version 2017 for Mac (186). BTW, I don't mind using tripletized 4/4 to do the same. I just don't know how to create triplets with BIAB... Tks.

You need to select a 12/8 style. Go to the style picker and select 12/8 from the time signature dialogue. I show 132 12/8 styles when I do that here, but the amount you will see depends on which package you have.

Creating your own styles requires a learning curve, but can be rewarding in the end.

Search the PG site and YouTube channel, there should be some tutorials on the subject.

I've been writing aftermarket styles for BiaB since the early 1990s when the StyleMaker was relatively feature-less by today's versions, so I've grown with it as PG Music has expanded its capabilities.

Start with something simple, triplet based. I'm not sure how to find that in the Mac version, I have always made styles on Windows. Many years ago I found the Windows version of the StyleMaker to have more features than the Mac version. The Mac may have caught up to the Win version by now, but I got used to how the Win version worked and never looked back.

A basic knowledge of music theory helps, as does an understanding of what each instrument's job in the ensemble should be. As you learn the ins and outs of the StyleMaker your styles will get better and better. So take it slow, one step at a time, and build your knowledge about it.

Most of all, have fun while you are doing it. IMO music always sounds better when you have fun making it.

Thanks Dave,
I did find 17 12/8 styles in my bank of styles. That's a start; I can now look in to those styles and see how they're structured and modify or create new ones from there.
Thanks again.

Bob,
I did find 12/8 styles in my bank finally. I will explore from those and see how I can move further.
Thanks for the smart advice: it's a long learning curve but I think it will be rewarding in the end, and Yes, you gotta have fun while doing this.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
