Saw this one when it came out back in June. In the middle he calls Seal to find out how he came up with the melody etc. Seal says he was just fooling around with a Tascam 244 Portastudio, the old 4 track cassette recorder, that someone gave him and was learning how to make it work with bouncing tracks etc. So he was not thinking about melody as such. Also he didn't know he wasn't supposed to do those modal jumps and go from Gmaj7 to Gmin7 etc. Wrote the song in a couple of hours in an afternoon and it won Grammy for song of the year that year! Amazing stuff.
Rick is always very insightful in these videos and there is a lot to learn from what he pulls out of these songs.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

"The best explanation I can come up with is that I didn't know you couldn't really do those things, or that those things were unusual". "It just felt like the right thing to do".
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. Kawai MP6, Korg M50, Ui24R, Saffire Pro 40. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11; Win8.1: Scarletts BIAB2022 UltraPAK, Reaper, a bunch of stuff.

What I get out of Rick's explanations is a technical roadmap of how to produce a certain sort of sound or a certain sort of feel.
It is one thing to listen to a song and say I like that sound. It is a completely different thing to understand in detail of how and why that sound is being produced.
Until I got a piano I was unable to "see" things on the guitar neck. The problem with guitar is that some chords or groups of notes are difficult to get your hands to form.
That is not nearly so true on piano. The second inversion is no more difficult to form than the third inversion.
The piano is so visual. It took me a very long time to be able to recognize where every note on the guitar was. Perhaps ten minutes to learn all the notes on a piano.
Rick explains things in a pretty easy-to-understand way. Of course, some basic understanding of music theory is needed.

Rick Beato is one of the only YouTube channels I have actually supported financially. I enjoy his videos so much. It is the ultimate music appreciation channel and if I took the time to practice the things he has in his instructional videos, I could probably become a much better player than I am and a much better songwriter.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
