I hope someone on this forum can help me. I have talked and emailed PG Music tech support and they have not been helpful. In some cases I'm not even sure they read the email I sent before responding, or did not understand my questions.
I have an Audient EVO 4 audio interface that I'm trying to use with BIAB. I tried it on my normal desktop, and had problems, so I invested in a laptop running Windows 11. It has an i7 processor with 16GB of ram. I disabled every background program other than those absolutely necessary to run. This laptop is dedicated to running BIAB. I have no other programs installed other than a browsers.
I am trying to record using the Audient EVO4 USB interface. I am using the Audient ASIO audio driver, with the inputs and outputs selected for the Audient. The sample rate is set to 44.1. I have tried ASIO buffer sizes of 32, 64, and 128. At 64 and 128 the recorded audio has extreme latency. At 32 the audio is all played extremely fast within the countdown to the BIAB file I am recording with. This is exactly what happened when I was trying to use my desktop for recording.
When I called and explained my problem to PG Music tech support, the tech said it was probably my Audient interface and that I would need to purchase something else. When I asked for a recommendation, I was told they couldn't give me one. I can't afford to purchase a dozen interfaces until I find one that will work with BIAB. When I told the tech that, they said to email support for a response.
When I did that I received a reply that seemed to not understand that the Audient EVO4 was an audio interface, and proceeded to give me a lengthy response that didn't seem to address my problem. Either that person didn't read my email, didn't understand my question, or I didn't understand their response and how it applied to my problem. From what I read it seemed they thought I was using a USB microphone with the laptop audio card, which IS NOT the case.
So my question for the forum is, "Has anyone had success recording in BIAB using and Audient EVO4?". If not, if it will not work, can you recommend something that will work? I would like to be able to record using BIAB, but at this point I don't no where to turn. I have a $1000 boat anchor that looks nice on my desk but won't allow me to record with BIAB.
Hello jdeluke137, I haven't any experience with your interface but did check it's specs and FAQs. The problem you are having isn't clear. Are you trying to record audio INTO BAIB or into a separate DAW? Is the problem upon playback of your self recorded track? Are you running direct monitoring through your interface's software when recording? What are you recording? The problem of "extreme" latency is common enough and the Direct Monitor setup in your interface's software will help with that- in conjunction with buffer size. The problem of "At 32 the audio is all played extremely fast within the countdown to the BIAB file I am recording with..." is odd though. Buffer size ought to have no impact upon play back tempo. Are you recording & playing back with the same tempo settings?

something to try to see if its a driver issue. the manual tells you how to select the interface in wndows sound settings so check that. then - and it may not even work at all - choose WAS as your audio driver not asio in BIAB preferences. make a note of the changes you make so you can go back but it shouldn't take more than a minute or so to try. as i say it might not even work at all but let us know what happens.
no more than a suggestion and not based on a gnostic knowledge of BIAB and wondows sound!
I’m trying to record into BIAB. I’ve tested recording into Reaper and I don’t have the same problem.
The problem is with the self recorded audio track. It isn’t in sync with the BIAB tracks when I hit the BIAB PLAY button that plays all tracks.
I have headphones plugged into the Audient interface. I’m not sure if that’s what yore referring to when you say “direct monitoring”.
I’m recording myself playing through a microphone while BIAB is playing a song file.
I am recording and playing back with the same tempo settings.
I’m willing to try anything you can suggest. I’m new to this, and I may just not know what I’m doing. I’ve watched several PG Music videos on recording and thought I was doing I correctly, but maybe I’m confused.
since i posted, an evo user i know that runs successfully evo with biab/rb has been trying to reach you but tells me your message box is full up please clear it out.
in the meantime open the BIAB OPTIONs menu and choose Preferences then audio and choose the WAS driver i think that could cure the problem. easy fix to try and has helped another user havig trouble with ASIO drivers.
... your message box is full up please clear it out...
That seems unlikely for someone with only a few months here and a total of 3 posts. I wonder if there is a minimum number of posts needed before one can use the private message function?

I received a private message from an EVO user and tech. I assume that's the same person referenced by Bob. He sent me a latency test and right now my new laptop doesn't seem to be capable the way it's currently set up. Hopefully I can change some power management settings and some CPU throttling and get it to work.
This is a great forum! Should have come here before I bought the laptop. I may have made an expensive mistake.
I echo, reinforce and agree with Mario's "I never record in BiaB. I always record in my DAW as I find that workflow works best for me." Doing so in BIAB is, for me, not worth the grief.
