Oh yeah, great groove. I liked the voice and guitar as well. The ending is a little cold and leaves me wanting a chorus and another verse. This has got a good sound. Brad

Re: 2024v1109 Jazz#1 RD Artifacts ShawnR 04/04/24 02:57 PM Forum: Band-in-a-Box for Windows Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Thanks for the tip. Yes, this issue is occurring at the joins at the end of the measure prior to a "B" partmarker. (or an "A" partmarker on a middle chorus configured to "vary style on middle choruses" as is the case with my examples). I've also discovered that the amplitude and "distinctiveness" of these artifacts increase as the tempo of generation increases. For example, this same Jazz#1 RD generated at 120bpm, while it still shows evidence of this artifact, isn't as amplified and is more diffused (resulting in it being less obvious) that if it is generated at 250bpm - which is very obvious. Unfortunately, generating slower and then setting for much faster playback isn't an good strategy as the Jazz #1 RD generating at 120bpm doesn't sound realistic played back at 250bpm. So, the clean-up technique you demonstrate above is the the only option until this is addressed by PGMusic. SR

Re: MusicXML anomalies shlind 04/04/24 01:01 PM Forum: Off-Topic Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Yes it is heavy! I got it to 5 steps (ie 3 extra steps compared from importing it directly into BIAB). Export from SongMaster Pro, Import to MuseScore, Copy score to new score within MuseScore, Export from MuseScore, Import into BIAB (it might be faster to type the chords in manually). The screen shots were only to show that it works loading an MusicXML into BIAB if the file is in a specific format (But it might be useful when trying to analyze what is going wrong when importing to BIAB, it is quite easy to compare the two XML files and see what differs from the one that is working compared to the one that is not working).

One of my younger bros heads the music dept at U of Wi. Madison The other (the middle one) does this stuff all day every day. I saw a report once where musical repair is one of the lowest stress jobs there is . seems at least moderately stressful. He has done a dang good job on the few horns I l had experience with, including a Selmer Mark 7 and my own Holton MF horn. Also an older Bach I managed to ding up pretty good.

Summary of changes in Build 1109 (Since build 1108) (Jan 17, 2024) Note about exporting MIDI files for use with Synth V. If you want the harmony parts exported on separate tracks in your MIDI file: (1) When you select a harmony in Band-in-a-Box, there is an option to Convert/write harmony to the melody track. Do not select this option. (2) To export the MIDI file, use File | Save Special | Save as MIDI file, or click the .MID button in the toolbar (File panel). In the Options dialog, select General MIDI format as the lyrics type, and make sure that "Harmony on separate tracks" is selected (these are the defaults).
  • Added: Three extra RealTracks added, that should have been included in sets 444, 445, and 447 but were only included in the 49PAK: Bass, Electric, VintageCountryWaltzSlow Sw 085; Guitar, Electric, Soloist BroCountryPopJohnny Ev 110; Guitar, Electric, Soloist ModCountryTravellerJohnny Sw16 075

  • Fixed: When exporting MIDI files with lyrics, the lyric events were saved as plain text events instead of lyric events. This would prevent them from showing up when the MIDI file was imported into some programs, such as Synth V.
  • NOTE: If you want to import a MIDI file with a melody harmony into Synth V with the harmony parts on separate tracks: (1) Do not select the option in Band-in-a-Box to Convert/write harmony to melody track, and (2) to export the MIDI file use File | Save Special | Save as MIDI file (or .MID button), and make sure that "Harmony on separate tracks" is selected in Options.

  • Fixed: MP3 loop files would not not play.

I mix/master initially on Sennheiser HD650 headphones to avoid any influence from the room I'm in - them I listen on a Genelec system incl sub, then on a pair of small Bose Companion 20 in a different room - and finally I go to a 3rd room to listen on a standard Denon hifi system! Glad they sound ok - thanks for checking Ron!! Cheers, Carl

Herb...super song...the greatest theme to sing about for sure...consistent and true to the scriptural account...it would sound great with a choir in the background or a gospel quartet...the musical interlude is spot-on especially with the modulation which lifted the the melody to new heights!...I love everything about this wonderful song!

some tunes allow you to use the folded version quite well to your advantage. a lot of jazz tunes that follow a simple format (e.g. aaba) are a good example. "vary middle choruses" is a great switch that allows for some variety to play your solos over. Other tunes I just unfold. Its just easier. So, as usual, it depends.

It's amazing how quickly things go south when you least expect it. Most people, like rharv was saying without saying, die from exposure. Most happen in less than 3 hrs of the exposure event. Getting wet in cold weather is one of the leading causes. You should always have one of those emergency blankets that are silver. You can get out of your wet clothes and wrap yourself in the emergency blanket and be much warmer than remaining in the wet clothes. In deep water.... Shoes and pants off immediately. Make a life jacket out of the pants. Rule of 3 rule of thumb 3 minutes without air. 3 hrs without shelter 3 days without water 3 weeks without food My daughter and one of her BFs went hiking. Wrong shoes, no raincoat/waterproof or warm clothing, and decided to go down what looked like a little side trail. Before long the trail was not a trail. They almost had a bad experience but managed to get back to the main trail. It was getting dark and cold.... They'd have been the subject of a search in not much more time. When she told me about it, we had a serious conversation about carrying a backpack with essential supplies on any and all future hikes no matter how simple or easy she thought it was going to be.

Hmmmm. Went back to this again. Let me see, I played that ColdPlay song Clocks he referenced about 1,888,965,976,654,112,345,897,332,777 times when it first came out. Is he making sense here? Maybe? I think??? Yeah, I guess he is.

Yes, some features are limited until a certain threshold has been 'accomplished' in my experience (from memory and others references) .. not sure if PMs is one of them, been a long long time since I hit any thresholds here

Dear Peter and friends ! Please forgive me for this late answer and thanks for including me on the list of winners ! My late answer is totally depending on my visit to Spain that just ended ! During my stay down there I have not been able to read or write anything on the forum so you can surely understand my surprise to find myself on this list ! I want to express my sincerest gratitude to Peter for this wonderful gift and also to congratulate all the fine musicians posting on the site ! Cheers Dani

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
