I have a feeling this will be a very simple thing and I'm gonna feel stupid...... but.........

First off......I haven't touched anything, honest............ but, when I select the Chord Builder nothing I press plays the sound of the chord, in fact there is no sound coming from it at all. Same thing goes for the drum set window, when I click on any of the drums there is no sound and no error message.

Everything else seems to be working OK.

Any ideas on what it can be?

Thanks

It sounds like you have lost your MIDI output, and yet you say "everything else works" - does that include playing back a BIAB song that has MIDI tracks?

Have you tried exiting and restarting BIAB?

If that doesn't do it, try rebooting the PC.

If that doesn't do it, try Options, Return to Factory Settings in BIAB.

If that doesn't work, we'll need more info on your setup, especially your MIDI output settings and whether you are using a DXi.

Good luck!

Depends on what you have chosen for your MIDI synth in the MIDI Output window.

In some cases, with "Use DXi" checked, you may have to also check, "Route MIDI Thru to..." and have another synth selected in the above window to hear those chords and such from the child windows.

Thanks Guy's, for some reason my reply yesterday didn't seem to have gone through.... strange. Anyway, what I tried to say before was that I had tried all the things Matt had suggested with no effect. However, what I did do was de-select, then re-select all the sound devices under the Windows 7 options (yes I am using it).

I personally find the sound setup in W7 over complicated. I know they are trying to cater for all eventualities but please.........!

Bottom line...... I now have all the sound back. I can hear the chords builder and the drum set chooser. All that's left now is to sort out that F%*7^^"£ .....ASIO thing again. This has been the bain of my life. I know it maybe better on MME but, I've got it installed and I'm gonna use it. Currently I need to run it at 40 - 50ms to stop the pops and clicks. W7 it appears is very CPU hungry and I'm still using a good old single CPU, not the quad-core they recomend.

Anyway, thanks again Guy's is good to now your there to help.

Glad you got it going.

I'm using Windows 7 32-bit RC on a dual core with no problems whatsoever. It's much better than Vista for CPU load (and about everything else, too), and performs about the same as XP did. You may well have some other problem going on, but without info on your setup, we'll never know.

I never had any luck with ASIO, either, but that's because I often have two audio programs open at the same time, the particular sound card I use works better on WDM, and SONAR recommends using WDM over ASIO. But every situation is different.

I have to say I'm not too familiar with the Windows WDM drivers. How do they compare to ASIO (assuming ASIO was working correctly)?

One of the main reasons I wanted to go for ASIO is the option of listening with FX's whilst recording. Can you do this with WDM?

Is latency an issue?

I've got the "old" Creative Audigy 2ZS card, and mainly use Cubase for recording. Is WDM OK with these?

I would do almost anything to get away from ASIO

Try the WDM drivers on your setup and see what you can do with them.

That's the best all around answer, as there are many system and hardware variables to contend with here.

Cheers

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
