Just got BIAB and PT.

Figured out how to save the individual real tracks from a song in BIAB. They are in MP3 format.

I can't seem to import them one at a time to PT. I import say a drum track, it loads on track 1 and then I click on track two and when I try to load the guitar track to track two, it writes it over track one.

Can someone give me the details as to how to load individual tracks one at a time into PT.

Thanks so much!!

Don't use file-open

Use Audio - imort audio instead

Older versions it would be file-audio-import audio

THANK you! OK it loaded the individual mp3 files, bass, drums and guitar. The piano track is a midi file as I could not find a real tracks piano to work. When I use the audio function-import wav. file, I cannot load the sgu file of the midi part as it will not see it when it goes to my documents folder. I can click on documents and see the file there.

How do I load a midi/sgu file of the piano track on track 4?

You should load the mgu first, then import the rest of the files

There is a way to do it as you described, but above method is much easier.

Complicated method is to use 'file-load scrap' and open the midi file, this puts it on the clipboard, then you have to use paste to put it into the file.. however if there are mulitple midi channels in the file it may goof up existing tracks, so opening the midi, and then importing audio onto available tracks would be preferred method

With the new versions of BB and RB, it likely would be far simpler -- and better sounding, since you can avoid the mp3 conversion and use WAV tracks directly -- to use the Drag and Drop feature from the Combo setting in BB to get all the tracks into RB.

Hold down Shift and Ctrl keys while dragging and dropping from Combo track into RB and they all go, MIDI, Realtracks and all.

Bam. Oneshot. Done.

Don't be afraid of RealBand, there is almost no learning curve, it looks and acts exactly like PT in most cases.

OK. I still cannot import the midi piano file.

edit.

OK here is what I had to do. I downloaded the 30day trial of Coyote DXI and sent the midi piano track to MP3 via the DXI synth route. Then I downloaded each mp3 of each instrument to PT. Finally!!!

So I still need to know how to get a regular midi file of a single instrument to a single track of PT WITHOUT going to MP3.

AND how to create an MP3 file from the midi sounds that I don't send to DXI.

Where can I look to see if the midi-to -Mp3 settings are correct so that it will get recorded.

an sgu file is not a standard midi but a biab song file. open it in biab and save it as a mid, then use the laod scrap feature.

What is the "scrap" feature?

"Scrap" is analogous to a file-based paste buffer. In PTPA, you have commands to "load scrap" and "save scrap".

"Load scrap" lets you select a MIDI file and load it into the paste buffer. It's sort of like hitting CTRL-C (Copy command) from a file. You can then use the "Paste" command to paste the contents into a track.

"Save scrap" lets you save the contents of the paste buffer to a file. So, lets say you highlighted a section of MIDI data in PTPA using the "copy" command (Ctrl-C). That information is now in the paste buffer. You can now "save scrap" and save the contents of the paste buffer to a file to retrieve later. It's sort of like hitting CTRL-V (Paste command) to a file.

It's weird, because years ago when I did a little programming, I used to always use "scrap" as my term for temporary storage, so when I saw the term used in PTPA, it was familiar to me right away.

I hope that helped.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
