Hope this doesn't get too long a post...

1. Is there a quick way to 'zero' the board ie. return all channel aux settings, pans to zero ?

2. I want to create a master template with EQ on each channel, Reverb, delay, chorus set up on my FX 1,2,3 outs etc.

I can create this template, save it, recall it, but my mixer settings seem to revert to the 'default' and the aux sends on each channel change from zero to 40 (10 o'clock). I reset them all back to zero, save Template as... and the next open, it's not as I saved it.

Assuming this is cleared up, then what process do I use to pull in a BIAB .mgu file ? Opening the file negates my template settings. I've tried to 'Import' and get 'Access Violation' and RB freezes up...to the task manager to shut it down.

Using M-Audio Fast Track Pro w/ ASIO drivers. MME is not an option in RB for my needs.

Thanks in advace for any help.

$options.seq saves a set up that gets used on startup.
I doubt that'll help as panning, etc gets saved with each file so it will reset on file open most likely.

Have you tried the 'default' button at bottom of mixer to reset everything?

rharv, yes I've tried the default button. It sets the AUX channel effect sends to a value of 40 (10 o'clock). I'd like the template to start out with zero aux values and pans set to middle. (Just discovered that the 'ALL' button will move ALL pans at once). Is there a 'master' way to set all channel aux sends to 0 ?

Even after I save the template file with the aux's set to zero, next opening of the template file moves them all to the 'default' setting...so not sure why I can save a template but not have it be 'honored' at the next use ?

OK, so I open a template (assuming all is good). What is the next step to song creation from an existing BIAB .mgu file ? I understand that I have a fresh template to start a NEW song from scratch, but I don't use RB that way. When I open an .mgu file all my mixer settings are gone from the 'fresh' template.

What is the designed intent of a template file ?

Template is a starting point for creation. As far as I know, when you open a song it loads these settings with the file.

FWIW I've asked for a feature like this in the past, and maybe if more do ask it will happen. Put in wishlist forum.
I've also requested it include a 'reset all' button that would do what you want PLUS remove all FX on any track or AUX or Final Out FX areas. This I wanted as a shortcut to remixing a song; I may want to just try a whole different mixdown on it .. and it would reset *everything* while keeping the track data. This sounds much like what you want, I just added to it a bit when I requested it.

I had not used the template before today... just got tired of having to add a 10 band EQ to all tracks, add my reverb etc every time I loaded in a new tune. The saved template will at least retain the effeccts on channels and aux master outs, so that's a good start. Would still like a quick reset, or the ability to change what the default button does ? Can I get at that .ini file somewhere ?

So from what I'm hearing this is not yet a true feature in RB ?

Made me grin ..
there are some pretty cool ini files in RB, but I haven't found one that would do what you want yet. Like I said, I've suggested it a couple times. Maybe my wheel doesn't squeek enough; squeek with me.

I'd also like a 'quick' click button to get to master FX in RB, but for now I have to open mixer, open A1 FX, close mixer .. or open FX where I am at, then change slot to A1 ..
I just want a button that opens that master output FX section in one click. Seems easy, but I'm probably the only one that has asked for it.

I'm not saying you *can't* do what you want, but I haven't figured out a way yet. 'Default button' action isn't a savable setting that I know of, but it would be a cool way of handling it.

Set up a track with the Effects you wish to use and then save as a Group from the Effects Panel. You will need to apply this Group to each Audio Track, but it is most unlikely that the required Effect settings will be similar for each track. Another place to explore Effect settings is via the Main Tracks Window > Right Click > Track Category > Select Relevant Instrument (say guitar) > Load Effects... This will load a starter pack of Effects and settings.

Again you can use the "Make New Audio Category" to create a customised set of Effects for specific instruments. Personally, I accept the standard Effects as the starting point and edit each track as required.

that idea sounds good to me.
It makes sense that a template would set up the basic components, but that the settings for the components would be handled by saving and recalling presets.

maybe if the various components (such as effects and the mixer) allow a given preset to be the default, it would be possible to load a template, which loads effects, which load default presets, all of which the user could predetermine.

Logic Pro 9 has a popup when you start it that gives you a choice of blank or multi-templates ,that include automation ,fx's ,mastering , software instruments or any other setting you like. It has templates for genre specific music or user created . That would be a nice addition for RB !

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
