Hi

I have just started using RB alongside BIAB, and am still exploring as well as un-learning some things blush

I wish to add two further drum tracks/voices to a current project to switch between and layer, which I can't do in BIAB but can do in RB.

When I choose a drum track to add however, RB looks for it in C:\b\drums\etc but I have my installation on an external drive with a permanent drive letter of its own.

How do I tel RB to look on the right drive? I found the "Change Directory" item on the File menu and thought that was it, but when using that to point to the other drive/folder nothing happens so I guess that isn't a Setting change.

BIAB already *knows* to look at the external drive for everything, and is set up fine .. I am sure RB can be set to do that too but I seem to be missing something so need to ask for guidance please.

And I am liking some of the new flexibility I am finding with RB after not really bothering to try it til now! It adds some functionality I hadn't even realised BIAB was missing, like this extra drum tracks capability, plus the localised regeneration ability that allows you to regenerate just a bar or two for smoother compatibility with the other patterns - that's very useful, especially with discords!!!

All I have to do now is get it to see the drums on the external drive and I'm fine for now ... thanks if you can fill in that blank for me, I suspect it is in fact blindingly obvious and after going through all the menus and options a heap of times I am just too close to see it any more!

In RealBand, go to Prefs and then select the Song Generation tab. On that screen will be a button called: "Paths for BBW, RealTracks, RealDrums. Click on that button, and on the next screen you can set the proper path for RealDrums (as well as RealTracks and BIAB, which I believe is needed to use the StylePicker).

You may need to rebuild the RealDrums list once it comes up, but I think this may solve your problem.

I have a similar problem whenever I import a BIAB file. RB says it can't find some RealDrum, but I already have it set to point to E:\bb\Drums. How do I "refresh" the styles list? Maybe I didn't do that properly at the start.

(I'm trying to get a screenshot of the actual error message...)

Here's a screenshot of the error:

I don't have RB pointing to c:\bb\Drums, so I don't get it.

CKLester -

Is that where your real drums are located (c:\bb\Drums), or did you move them to a different drive, or perhaps run them off your external USB drive?

What setting do you have in BIAB for your RealDrums? Do they match.

To rebuild the list, just open the RealDrums picker and click on the Rebuild button.

No, they are on my E: drive (which I mention in one of my posts). That's what's confusing me. Why is RB looking there when I have specifically set it to the E: drive?

Should be E: drive as well. I will check when I get home later.

The default setting is c:\BB\Drums (and c:\BB\RealTracks). If you installed them somewhere else, you need to go in and the program where they are. I recommend then rebuilding the list and it should work properly for you.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
