For anyone who may be interested, this will premiere next week:

Quote:
Bible Secrets Revealed, History Channel

I’m pleased to announce that a new documentary series will begin airing on History beginning Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00pm / 9:00 Central.

The series is entitled, Bible Secrets Revealed, and is produced by Prometheus Entertainment for the History channel.

The titles of the six episodes and their schedule of appearance are as follows:

“Lost in Translation” – November 11, 2013
“The Promised Land” – November 18, 2013
“The Forbidden Scriptures” – November 25, 2013
“The Real Jesus” – December 2, 2013
“Mysterious Prophecies” – December 16, 2013
“Sex and the Bible” – December 23, 2013

The documentary features dozens of the world’s top biblical scholars, religious studies scholars, archaeologists, and historians, who offer different points of view while addressing some of the more difficult readings in the biblical and extra-biblical texts.

It is also worth note that portions of the documentary were filmed on site during the 2013 season of archaeological excavation at Tel Azekah.

.

The "History" Channel includes Ancient Aliens, the Loch Ness Monster and Atlantis as topics worthy of their consideration. They lost any credibility they may have had with me years ago.

I saw their promo proclaiming that the virgin birth was an impossibility.

I guess that and the other subjects that they will be rehashing gives me a good insight on what to expect.

I think they were talking about the mistranslation of the word "virgin" from a passage in Isaiah.

No Bob,

What I heard was to the effect that the virgin birth was an impossibility.

Also, they're run these themes in the past, so I would be very surprised if they came out and said that the bible is the inspired word of God.

On another subject: Bad day here, watching Michigan getting creamed by Nebraska.

They may very well have. The short series hasn't aired yet but I planned on watching it and I thought some of you guys also might want to watch, regardless of where you stand on religion.

The last Biblical series they ran was very well reviewed by Christian and secular scholars so this post is just a heads up so you could watch it if you wanted to.

The choice it seems to me is whether to believe someone today looking at artifacts that are 2000 or so years old, produced for a tv show or eye witness accounts of the Resurrection of Christ written 2000 yrs ago for the Salvation of our souls.
No matter how many different ways we look at it, it comes down to who do you have faith in.
Like the fellow's ministry "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist". I don't have enough faith to believe I came from pond scum.

Why assume it's going to be a hit piece? I'll give the Bible scholars the benefit of a doubt and assume they take on their chosen profession because they have a love for scripture and want to understand who actually wrote the books and also how we got the book we call a the Bible.

Combining information from Bible scholars, archaeologists and historians sounds to me like a good way to get a better understanding of the Bible.

Even if you disagree with some of the ideas presented.

Maybe he viewed that simply way out there History Channel so-called "documentary" that covered that tired old and leftover theory that originated in Germany before WWI that put forth the cockamamy theory that Christ was really under the influence of some drug that did not exist then and couldn't be duplicated today, was then placed in the tomb - and the nonexistant fantasy drug then wore off.

And also they claimed that a man who was crucified, then stabbed through the thorax and towards the heart region by a Roman spear to prove death, was just perhaps passed out. And then was able to be revived by the "cold of the tomb" and then managed to get out of an ancient Hebrew style shroud wrap, move a very large sealed stone - and then hike all the way across the city afterwards. Nevermind the Roman guards posted.

Of course, they also showed how every one of the Apostles, who in real life all were martyred for not recanting their story, btw (I don't think I know anyone who would die for a lie...) were complicit in this "deception".

That show, they included NO information nor interviews or even just quotes from anyone who might have an opposing viewpoint.

That said, I'm hoping that History Channel may do better this time around.

I guess I missed that show. I like the ones where they include opposing viewpoints and leave it to the viewers to make up their own minds.

I just watched the first episode of Bible Secrets Revealed online and it was very interesting. I already knew most of what was presented but they laid it out in a very clear and concise manner.

I think it would be safe to say that 99.99% of believers don't have even the remotest idea about the history and origins of the Bible because it's not taught at church. Ministerial students have to study it as part of their education, at least in the more progressive or modern biblical universities.

Anyway, you can watch it online here if you wish:

Bob ya got stock in this production? Just wondering.

Look I love ya man but this post, to me anyway, smells like borderline spam or was there a music score or link I missed.

Later,

Nope, no stock in it. I just know a lot of PG'ers are Bible readers and I thought some may be interested.

Since I could only delete my last post on it, then by way of this post I'm asking PG to take it down if they deem it inappropriate.

As far as "music related only", that ship sailed here long ago.

Thanks Bob! This is great stuff!

The show includes some of my favorite Bible scholars: Bart Ehrman, Reza Aslan, Geff Gheoghan.

Looks like the History Channel is trying to give them a fair hearing. Lets see how the various viewpoints balance out.

I want to give Bob credit for the spirit in which he made this post. He has made clear that he doesn't subscribe to the tenets of Christianity, yet he acknowledges that there are sincere believers here and took a chance on making them aware of something that may be of interest.

Bob was snippy with me, once. I called him on it and he backed off. Ever since then we have communicated like adults. I don't get a whiff of that here. If you're interested, watch; if you're not, don't, but don't attack the messenger's motives. Nobody here is a mind reader. In this case I take him completely at face value.

I wish I had time to look at the thing but, as I work nights, I'm usually asleep when some good TV is being shown. (Sometimes--not often--I wish I had a DVR.) I look forward to reports from those who do see it.

Richard

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
