I'm involved in a vigorous discussion about headphones on a medical transcription forum. Somebody was running down Sennheisers because their $25 sets kept breaking. (This under daily use in a production environment.) Anyway, I did a search to refute their benightedness and goodcans.com/ was the very first hit. $1000 cans, anyone? I keep trying to convey to other transcriptionists that quality gear may seem expensive, until you have to replace the cheap stuff a couple of times. For the record, my phones of choice are the beyerdynamic DT 700. I bought a pair in 1996 (!) and still use them on a daily basis. I paid $86 back then; today they're $200. I haven't found anything at any price that equals them for the combination of accuracy, comfort, durability, and passive isolation. Just my two centibucks' worth. The website is the real reason I posted. Enjoy.

Working for a company that makes hi-end in-ear headphones and monitors, I have to be careful not to be too commercial. As for passive isolation, there are no over-the-ear or on-the-ear headphones that can offer the isolation that an in-canal headphone can. This is simply a matter of facts of physics. The canal has to be sealed for high (20+ dB) attenuation. For home recordists, the isolation is actually something to consider - great isolation from room noise/sound will help you to place microphones more accurately - hearing what the microphone hears. You will find that the lower end of quality in-ear monitors/headphones using balanced armature drivers, falls into line with your Beyerdynamic models - even less on price. The goodcans site is interesting, but it seems like they are limiting their brand choice to a few brands. www.Headfi.org seems to list more manufacturers (well over 100) including those from the goodcans site. They also allow detailed user reviews. If you visit the site, prepare to be mesmerized for awhile with all of gear reviews and so forth. My favorite over-the-ear; or circumaural to be more precise, for listening purposes, are Sennheiser HD800 headphones. These are glorious, but offer almost zero passive attenuation/isolation. And the list on them is around $1000 if I'm not mistaken. -Scott

I can just see me telling my wife that I'm going to buy $1000 headphones, so she can say, "You don't listen to me now; why would you spend $1000 to not listen to me!" Just kidding; we get along great. But there's still no way I could justify $1000 headphones. Just sayin'...

I have a pair of in ear headphones, bought on Scott's recommendation, from the company he is with - Westone.
I am delighted with them, they work well from everything from casual listening with an iPhone to jamming or studio work.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

That wouldn't fly very high around here, neither.

Peter, which model did you end up buying? Next year at NAMM, you should stop by the Westone booth and meet some of the guys. I was at NAMM in 2010 and talked with someone at the PG booth - but I had a grand total of 2.5 hours at NAMM; it was torture deciding where to go with such little time.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
