A bit over 10 years ago I posted about this Western Swing original song with my vocals. Recently I've become interested in hearing what some of my songs would sound like with a "pro" singer. Had first one done by a Nashville studio with a studio band and singers. Came out great, but was a bit pricey due to the studio band. So, this time I sent the excellent backup track done years ago with BiaB for this "Man I'm Gonna Miss Montana" song and had them add a singer and mix him in with my backup track. I am really pleased with the "radio ready" result! My singing on my version is about as good as I can sing, but nowhere as good as this guy! Listen to the studio version HERE. I won't repeat all the BiaB info for the backup track. You can find it in my original post HERE. Thanks for listening!

Hi Ralph,
I thoroughly enjoyed this song. You can never have enough Western Swing.
The vocals are great.
The backing (Drums and guitar) are also good but the fiddle is IMHO too low in the mix - both the fills and the solo parts. I think they need at least 2Db raise in the fill and 3-4 DB in the solo parts.
I think you've got a potential winner here.
Best Regards Nigel

This is a good write and I enjoyed the listen. Cool lyrics and the vox is well performed.
Well done!

Very cool, Ralph. I had to go back to listen to the original first, and was not disappointed. That's a cool version too, but yeah, these guys did a great radio-ready rendition. Such a good song is easy for others to do well, and this song speaks for itself. Much enjoyed.

Sounds good, Ralph. That is one SMOOTH singer you've got there. A very good write. (I liked your own singing, too).

Many thanks for the thumbs up, folks! Nigel, thanks for the suggestion on fiddle levels. However, I think I'm past the "tweaking" stage. Ralph

Everything but the intro was smooth and fairly well sorted to my ears. The pieces of solo from fiddle, steel & guitar seem quite abrupt and unsympathetically edited - particularly when compared to the rest of the song. The fiddle levels may be worth experimenting with.

Hi Ralph,
Yes I know what you mean about editing overload - maybe leave it a while and then relook at suggestions.

WOW! This is really great, Ralph! Your voice is first-class and the lyrics are top notch as well. You do the Western sound really well.

BTW, I entered this song in the recent West Coast Songwriters annual Song Contest and was one of the 2 Honorable Mentions!! I was told there were about 20 entries in the Country category. I think the winner could have won on title alone: "WHO'S GONNA DRIVE THE TRUCK (IF MAMA GOES TO JAIL)".

Very nice song. Western swing.
I like it in its Nashville format. That's a good singer for sure.
That said.....Did you happen to get the solo vocal track? That would be a cool song to rework from the ground up using the vocals from Nashville. Lose the homogeneous harmony tracks, shorten the instrumental solos into more of a turnaround and rework it. You've got better real tracks available now and should be able to get sweeter results. Something about the instrumental solos just weren't 100% with the groove of the song in my humble opinion.
All in all.... Really good job.

Guitarhacker, thanks for the thumbs up on my song. Yes, I have the vocal track, since I had the thought of maybe doing an alt-mix. Maybe a more country feel vs. swing. Not sure I'll ever get around to it, but at least I have it. Thanks, also, for your ideas about an alt-mix. BTW, I get an error when trying to access the site in your signature.

HogTime, I am really partial to Western Swing and so I really enjoyed this one! The studio vocal was top-notch to be sure. Lyrically, you have some fantastic lines that are so creative.
What studio did you use and who is doing the vocals?

Dewey, Many thanks for the thumbs up, especially the creative part. I used the following studio to add vocal to my BIAB track: https://www.awritersparadise.com/I don't know the name of the singer. Just ask Stacy, the studio owner, and mention the name of my song. It was done a couple of months ago. BTW, I first used this studio for a full demo (band + vocals) on another of my songs last year. Came out great, but decided to save some money by using BIAB track vs. studio band this time. Here's the full studio song: https://hogtimemusic.bandcamp.com/track/get-your-act-together-studio-version-2Write on, Ralph

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
