I'm back! (I hope!) I have my hands full around home, and I haven't had much of a chance to post for awhile now. I just finished a song that I actually wrote about 4 months ago. With all we have gone through for the past 3 1/2 years, I am staying close to my roots. It is where my heart is (and always has been, truthfully.) This is another worship song, called Secret Place. The lyrics speak for themselves. The piano and guitar part are RealTracks. {I'm sorry I have misplaces the BB file that listed what parts they are.) I felt this one needed a lot of (emotive) orchestration so I used Vienna Strings and Berlin Orchestra Brass and Woodwinds for that. I got Rachel to add some harmonies on one of the choruses.

I hope you enjoy this one. Comments welcome.

BTW, just want to share one thing that has really come home to me over the past 3 years... Treasure each day you have with the ones you love. Don't sweat the small things (or the big things for that matter!) Remember to cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you...

In the secret place, I have found my rest
It's where I find the path of righteousness
Where hope abounds and my heart says yes
In the secret place, I have found my rest

In the secret place, I can clearly see
I see Your meekness and your majesty
I'm overwhelmed by Your love for me
In the secret place, I can clearly see

For You, oh Lord are my refuge
You, oh Lord are my fortress
For You, oh Lord are my God in whom I trust
In the secret place, I have found my rest

For You, oh Lord are my refuge
You, oh Lord are my fortress
For You, oh Lord are my God in whom I trust
In the secret place, I can clearly see

In the secret place, I have found my rest
It's where I find the path of righteousness
Where hope abounds and my heart says yes
In the secret place, I have found my rest

Hi Steve,

Welcome back! This is always a better place when you are here. I hear you about the past several years being a bumpy ride. I hope all is better with your family. My wife has her ups and downs (dementia is slowly getting worse), but she is otherwise doing slightly better. Hope your road is a bit smoother, too.

What a gorgeous song! Your vocal is just so good on this. I had to go back and listen a second time to listen more closely to the arrangement and production. The strings, brass, and woodwinds all sound fantastic. I like you used them diligently - not just throw them all in ad hoc. That BIAB box piano sounds great!

A beautiful song with a great message. A gorgeous song in all respects. Very nicely done!

Wishing you & yours everything good.

Alan

Hi, Steve.

As usual, soothing vocals over fantastic orchestration.

Nothing to comment on really, other than that - love it! smile

Welcome back!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Beautiful song, thoughtfully arranged and expertly performed. Very clear mix. Love the false ending and the cool swells in the outro. Just fantastic.

Steve...this is wonderful...every part is so exquisitely placed...your vocals are always one of the special ingredients in your productions...how wonderful that you would share such an intimate song with us...your heart is exposed and your priorities revealed...lyrically and melodically moving..."I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord..." Isaiah 45:3...just beautiful!

Gosh Steve, this is perfection. I've been there man, and you brought me right back there again with this music. I wish I had better words, but they all pale in comparison to this song. I'm just going to shut up and listen again. Thank you for this one,

Brad

Not the first time I thought in the morning that I haven't heard from Steve for a long time and then quite soon I see your new song on the forum. I was expecting a gorgeous song of praise and that's what I've got. Another masterpiece, simple yet really powerful ballad with comforting words sung by enjoyably fragile voice. And the arrangement is simply beautiful, the piano and the masterful string orchestration work together in a very touching way.

You know what the thing is, with your songs? Your profound sincerity in your faith shines through. You don't sing for the sake of "praising the Lord with your lips alone", etc. . You seem (so strongly to me, as a listener) to have such a profound understanding and genuine faith ... that kind of thing communicates itself. Musically speaking, this is superbly done, from every aspect ... but so are many other songs, by many artists, in this genre. What sets yours apart, again, is (for me, at least) the above. May you be blessed, and may you continue to share of your incredible talent with us. When you sing, I shut up smile - so well done.

Nicely sung, Steve. I like your transition from chest voice to head voice, which has a smooth, pleasing tone. You've created a lovely melody, and the production is ace! The song has commercial potential IMHO.

Hi Steve,

It sounds silly, but in the past months you came in my mind regurlarly. Mostly at nights.
I was blown away by that beautiful song you made some years ago. It is still in my head, only the title faded...
And now I saw your name, heard your song and the same feelings as then came back.
A beautiful song, with much pain and sorrow in it, but also resignation... From all the things you went through.
I am not a religious man, have my share of troubles, but making music gives (me) pleasure, but also the kind of resignation you sang about (the secret place).
I hope that is the case with you too and so, to hear more from you in the coming time.

But let me underline how nice this song is. Almost as beautiful as the one I heard from you.
Your vocals are very, very good. And the composition itself is wonderful!

Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
