EDIT: for now, I have enough info from the manufacturer that I should be able to get it working. I'll post at the end of the thread when I know more and solve this.
This is music-related but most definitely not suited for any other forum, I think.
The church where I perform just bought this: Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon. I want to program it with a few of my classical compositions.
It will load a user-created MIDI file, but when I create one from BIAB or any other software, it loads but gives no sound when played.
I sent a request to their customer support, but does anyone here have any ideas? I don't know if it requires Type 0 or Type 1. Maybe there is a SYSEX that must be prepared. I have no information about patches other than names of their supposed sound sets.
Thanks for any tips.

Did you already try both types? I'm quite interested in hearing it work when you figure it out.
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.
1. How much did you make in 2023? 2. Send it to us.

Is there a sample program you can analyze?
Everything by sysex can be used with trial and error, Type 1, Type 0, note on velocity, note off velocity, note duration, etc.
If you need sysex, you might be able to copy it from a sample file, if it came with one.

Right; the next time I visit, I’ll download one of their songs to study. Although I could create a custom folder and upload my song into it, I did not see any menu option to save one of their preloaded songs to my flash drive.

This was not very helpful: To load and hear your own MIDI file with the **Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon**, follow these steps:
1. **Prepare Your MIDI File**: - Create or obtain a MIDI file that you want to play on the carillon. Ensure that it adheres to the carillon's requirements. - If you're using software like **BIAB (Band-in-a-Box)** or any other MIDI software, make sure the MIDI file is correctly formatted.
2. **Connect Your MIDI Device**: - Connect your MIDI device (such as a computer or keyboard) to the Schulmerich g5 Electronic Carillon using a MIDI cable. - Ensure that the MIDI channels are set correctly.
3. **Load the MIDI File**: - Access the carillon's user interface or control panel. - Navigate to the **MIDI file loading section** (refer to the carillon's manual for specific instructions). - Upload your prepared MIDI file to the carillon.
4. **Select the Correct MIDI Type**: - Some carillons require specific MIDI file types (Type 0 or Type 1). Check the carillon's documentation to determine which type it supports. - If you're unsure, try both types and see which one works.
5. **Check for Sound Output**: - After loading the MIDI file, play it on the carillon. - If you encounter issues (such as no sound), consider the following: - **Velocity and Duration**: Ensure that note-on and note-off velocities are set appropriately in your MIDI file. - **SysEx Messages**: Some carillons may require specific SysEx messages. Check if there are any specific settings or patches needed. - **Sample Programs**: Analyze any sample programs provided by Schulmerich to understand their MIDI file structure.
6. **Troubleshoot and Experiment**: - If the MIDI file still doesn't produce sound, experiment with different settings, velocities, and note durations. - Consider reaching out to Schulmerich's customer support for further assistance.
Remember that the nearly 8,000 carillon songs in the g5 library are not simply recordings of bells; they are MIDI files of actual performances played back using the digital bells⁴. Good luck with your classical compositions on the carillon! 🎶🔔

The Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon likely has certain limitations regarding MIDI file size and type. While I can provide some general guidance, it's essential to consult the specific user manual or documentation provided by Schulmerich for accurate and up-to-date information. However, here are some common limitations you might encounter:
1. **File Size**: The device may have restrictions on the maximum size of MIDI files it can handle. This limitation could be due to storage capacity or processing power. Typically, MIDI files are relatively small compared to audio files, but if your MIDI file contains a large number of tracks or is particularly long, it might exceed the device's capacity.
2. **File Type**: The Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon likely supports standard MIDI file formats such as .mid. However, it's essential to verify whether it supports other MIDI file types like .midi or .smf. Using unsupported file types may result in playback errors or the inability to load the file onto the device.
3. **Number of Channels**: The device may have restrictions on the number of MIDI channels it can handle simultaneously. While most MIDI files typically contain fewer channels than the device can support, it's worth checking if your file exceeds any channel limitations.
4. **Compatibility**: Ensure that the MIDI file is compatible with the device's firmware or software version. Sometimes, newer or proprietary MIDI features may not be supported by older devices or software versions.
5. **Instrument Mapping**: The Carillon may have its own predefined instrument mappings for MIDI playback. Make sure that your MIDI file's instrument assignments align with the available instruments on the Carillon. Otherwise, the playback may not sound as intended.
It's crucial to refer to the specific documentation provided by Schulmerich or contact their customer support for precise information regarding file size and type limitations. Following their guidelines will help ensure a smooth experience when using MIDI files with the Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon.

The Schulmerich Series g5 Electronic Carillon typically supports both MIDI type 0 and MIDI type 1 files. These are the two primary MIDI file formats commonly used in electronic musical instruments and software.

Sorry Matt, that is all I can find. Not much info available, without calling or emailing them.

Although I could create a custom folder and upload my song into it, I did not see any menu option to save one of their preloaded songs to my flash drive. Watching the video from the above link @1:40 it does show a screen that mentions saving and loading, but I don't know if that saves to an external drive, as you have mentioned. It possibly just internally saves an existing edited data set.

Thank you all for your efforts! I really didn't expect others here to be interested in a carillon, and I appreciate it.
I'm going to Mark this Resolved since I've received some info from the head of their tech support.
I have to say, it differs from some of what was posted here (not your fault, of course).
And, I haven't been able to return to do more testing yet. Once I do, I'll make another post to try to close the loop.
etcjoe, can you tell me where you found the info you quoted in your first post?
In general, they claim there is no User Manual because they market it as being so easy to use on the console itself. Nonsense. There is a lot of technical info and I had to dig for it.
The answer to a question as simple as "what is the type of connection for a monitor speaker in the same room as the console", is unknown without removing the back panel. Answer: XLR line-level output.
My source said, use MIDI Type 0. That alone may account for why my test files didn't work; I assumed MIDI Type 1.
They didn't know anything about a SYSEX file or any kind of info required to be in the MIDI file. Total news to them. That's why I want to find out where the material etcjoe quoted came from.
My source also told me the carillon plays MP3 files. That's a surprise. I found this out when I asked if there were built-in test-tone files so I could verify if our 40-year old speakers are blown (I'm pretty sure they are). He suggested I make my own test file as an MP3.

can you tell me where you found the info you quoted in your first post? This is only my guess, and etcjoe can confirm, but I felt that it read a lot like ChatGPT A.I. information. A.I. can probably find sources that we mortals might struggle to locate

I'm glad you found answers.
I'm not particularly interested in carillon, but I am very interested in MIDI.

Yes to confirm, my answers came from copilot and chatgpt, they were very similar actually! Since I could find nothing with any other searches I did, I gave AI a chance. It didn't really give us any answers though, it was all may this and might that.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
