I need to push only on beat four and the following eight note, such as 1 2 3 4& - So the Em7 would hold for beat 1 2 3 and then 4 is F#m and the & is G (leading into an anticipated ^A in beat 1 of the next bar).

I've looked and looked and can't seem to find how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm following you right, all you need do is invoke a Push on the first beat of the next measure.

That would put beat 1 of bar 2 on the & of 4 in the first bar.

Yeah - seems to work in theory but doesn't sound right getting to the A Chord in the next bar. What I seem to need is 2 chords in the 4th beat. The feel is like a triplet with the first chord on 4 and the final 3rd of the triplet being the anticipated A chord in the next bar.

I'll keep pluging away at this.

Thanks,

If I understand you correctly, you want to have a chord on beat 4, a different chord on the and of 4 and a different chord on the first beat of the next measure. BIAB at present can not do that. There is a trick you can try, which is to expand your song by a factor of two and treat every two measures as if they were one. Then you can do it. Just adjust the tempo accordingly, and find another style to suit.

Bob Notes Norton has marketed 'expanded' styles to meet this need.

Again - this assuming I understand what you are requesting. You talk about an A in beat one of the following bar, but using the caret symbol means it will appear on the and of four in the preceding bar.

Yes that is what I was trying to do. Wound up exporting to midi and enhancing with a midi editor.

How about this. Do what Mac says, plus add the A to the 2nd beat of measure 2 with a double push. This should put the A where it needs to be, on beat 1. I'm not at my computer at home right now but I will try this when I get home and let you know if it will work.

Wouldn't that be nice.

There is no double push. You can use the caret ^ symbol to push by 1/8th note or the double caret ^^ to push by 1/16th note, period. There is no quarter note push to put the chord on the previous beat.

BIAB currently does not allow one chord on the "and" with another chord on the following beat (unless of course, you are using something like Bob Norton's expanded styles - but then you get into notation issues).

Hopefully, if we ever get 1/8th note (or better) resolution, then we'll be able to to have different chords on the "and" of any beat.

sorry about that guys, I thought the double ^^ (caret) pushed twice as far. I'm still a babe in the woods, I guess, learning more each day.

It's a reasonable mistake to make, though, David. I hardly use the double caret 1/16th note push but I use the single-caret 1/8th note push all the time. That's likely typical for most users. I presume the designers chose to make the lesser-used push require more keystrokes to enter.

The only way to do it us to use my Norton Music EXPANDED styles.

They allow up to 8 chords per measure.

Plus you can put a chord on any beat AND the eighth note before that very same beat.

In fact, this is exactly what I invented EXPANDED styles for.

To listen to low-fi mp3 examples of my EXPANDED styles, go to http://www.nortonmusic.com/styledemo.html

My styles have been recommended by Electronics Musician Magazine, Keyboard Magazine, Music & Computers Magazine and many other music/computer publications.

Agreed. That's why I mentioned Bob's styles in my first reply in this thread. Highly recommended.

Might be a dead topic but, this is probably possible within Band In A Box. That is, so long as the style you have chosen is somewhere near the tempo it was intended for. I've tried using some styles that were intended for say, 144 bpm and since I liked the drum pattern when slowed down I've used them at say, around 60 - 70 bpm. The pushes don't work well like this. And a slower style used too fast is even worse. If this is what you've done then you might try it with a different style that is made for a tempo similar to your song.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
