Hi, we have connected a keyboard via a USB midi cable. Whe we play notes on the keyboard only some are recorded (probably only 10-20%). Its almost as if there is a lack of processing speed but we know it can't be this. Any ideas?

Check to see what device you have chosen in Options-Preferences-Midi Dveices

Make sure it shows the USB connection as being highlited on the input side (by name).
It may have defaulted to midimapper (generic windows) or something else.

Also have you tried a different USB port?

Are you trying to record to MIDI track or to AUDIO track?

It would be nice to know more here, like the brand and model of keyboard, USB interface, if separate from keyboard, computer and Operating System -- and what you are trying to use for the MIDI output device at the time...

We're trying to record midi. The keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-290 and we're using a USB midi cable plugged between the keyboard Midi in & out and the PC USB port. th cable has THE midi box in the middle with a USB cable to the PC and two cables (Midi IN & out) to the keyboard via 5 pin din plugs. We have selected the USB Audio device in the drivers menu for both input and output. So far so good. However if I start playing the keyboard the first one or two notes appear on the PT keyboard but no more. As I keep playing the occasional note shows up but its only about 10% of the ones I play. My PC is a Dell dimension 5150, 3GHz, 1Gb of RAM, Running Windows XP home edition 5.1.

Check for IRQ sharing on USB, and Device Manager for conflicts.
Is there another keyboard available to try, just to rule out the source?

Open the animated drums module and record a small section on that.
If you haven't used it before, open it up and use the red record button from inside the module, then click on the drums (or use the computer keyboard to play it while recording. See if all the midi gets recorded that way or if it is still missing beats.

Is the system working OK for audio?

My brother had to return back to his place and took his keyboard. However I'm going to buy another keyboard so we'll put that one on hold for now. Thanks anyway.
On the issue of audio... we can now record several audio tracks however despite having a drum beat on track 1 to keep timing, the other tracks all seem to have a small progressive lag the longer the song is. It's not much but it builds up over a period of time so that on play back its almost a beat out of time after around 2 minutes. We've been trying to cut little micro second periods out between each bar but this is very time consuming and frustrating. Any ideas?

What are you using for the soundcard to record audio?
Sounds like you may have a different driver for playback than record (?)

options-preferences-audio tab- drivers
The input and output should match.
Make sure the soundcard itself is selected, not soundmapper.. and use the 'move selected device to top' button so it becomes the default input.

Just a couple things to try.

Using MME or ASIO drivers?

My sound card is a soundblaster Live 24 bit.
You're right, when I checked the drivers in the options-preferences-audio tab-drivers the soundmapper was selected for both input and output. I have changed this to the 'sound blaster audigy' driver for both and moved it to the top for the output. I'll try repetaing the recording soon. Thanks.

I would suggest ASIO drivers.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
