I am an infrequent band in a box user. I have a dell laptop-probably four years old. I just made a recording and hear momentary gaps in the sound. I made a cd and tried it on my mac and the gaps are really in the recording (not just my machine as I had hoped). Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong or what is going on?
thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by gaps. Is this silence? A 4 year old computer may strain when making a recording. Lots of things factor into this such as available memory and disk defragmentation.
A few thing to try not knowing your situation:
. Defrag your drive . Turn off background programs such as virus and spyware monitors . If you are using RealTracks, turn off fast generation
If you still have the problem, post more info such as your computer configuration, the method you use to record, and some info about your song (RealTracks, etc).

It sounds like a split second gap in the music. I checked my drive-it does not need to be defragged. I run windows xp professional. The hiccups occur approx. every 6 or so bars, but it is not completely consistent. I might have heard this problem before but recordings I made 6 months ago didn't have this gap in them.
I just picked a style (JIN_Orl2 VintJ New Orleans2) and plugged in the chords. It is saved on my hard drive as a sgu file if that makes a difference. Like I said, I am not a frequent use of band in a box.
Thanks again

You probably are not doing anything wrong, user-wise.
However, there is likely some program running or service that you did not have then. A virus checker, or some program 'phoning home' over the Internet could do this.
Look at the Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and sort on at the CPU column. Is anything moving to the top every six seconds or so?
Are you on the Internet? Try disconnecting. If it's still there, try disabling the network card in Device Manager.
Turn off your virus checker.
If you still cannot figure it out, try downloading and running the "DPC Latency Checker" (Google will find it right away). If you have all green bars, you should be fine. If not, the website gives you many suggestions to try.
You could also try, in BIAB, Opt, Return to Factory Settings.
What OS are you running on your laptop? What version of BIAB? Have you checked for the latest update for your version?
You mention a specific style. Does it happen the same way with other styles?
The answers to these questions, and Rachael's, will help us to help you.

I had this problem recently with RB, and it turned out to be the ASIO drivers.

Sue,
How are you making the recording? Are you using BIAB Render or some other method?

Sue, More information, more applicable answers.
As Rachel asked, HOW are you making the recordings? Are they rendered from a soft synth? Are they recorded from a mic, and if so, what device are you using to input the audio?
Specifics of your Dell would be nice. How much RAM, what speed CPU, how much available hard drive space.
The more specific your answers, the easier it will be for us to help you. The more information we have, the more we can ruminate on.

I continue to have the same 'hiccups' on my brand new PC (ASUS Win7) that I used to blame on my antique WinME box... Is it possibly the '08 BIAB that I'm using? Thought for SURE it'd go away with the new machine....
Also - still get some really bad chords from the 'guitar' - even simple things like a C7 - the piano sounds fine, but if I mute the piano - the guitar is playing some very strange atonal thing... usually if I use chord builder and choose the same chord, it will be fine.... this happens a lot - and just doesn't seem right....

Hello Sue, What are you using as your MIDI output driver (Opt. | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup). DXi synth? If so, which one?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
