So, I have to re-update the pathname for my external drive for RealTracks and RealDrums EVERY DAY, because it SEEMS like Snow Leopard is in some way renaming my external drive every day.

It's like this ... BIAB opens by telling me the volume for RealDrums/RealTracks doesn't exist.
Which is odd because yesterday it did exist just fine!

The volume I'm using is a LaCie 1TB external drive.

So, I browse and choose the pathname for the external drive, then it works.
The weird part is that every day the pathname that works is different, has a different numerical suffix.

Examples...

YESTERDAY, after I browsed and updated the external pathname for RealDrums, it was
/Volumes/LaCie 39/BIAB 10 Drums/Drums
(which worked).

YESTERDAY, after I browsed and updated the external pathname for RealTracks, it was
/Volumes/LaCie 39/BIAB 10 RealTracks/RealTracks
(which worked).

But TODAY, those pathnames 'does not exist'. So TODAY, I re-browse, and update the pathnames to:
/Volumes/LaCie 40/BIAB 10 Drums/Drums
and
/Volumes/LaCie 40/Biab 10 RealTracks/RealTracks
(which worked). Notice how there's a '40' now as part of the volume name.

The correct, actual drive name, for my LaCie external drive,
as it shows in Finder, and as it shows on my Desktop icon for that drive,
is simply:
"LaCie"
(*not* "LaCie 39"
or
"LaCie 40")

After researching a little bit, I found a folder called Volumes
which showed multiple copies of the LaCie drive name.
I saw a *folder* called LaCie 1, a *folder* called LaCie 2,
etc, all the way up thru LaCie 40. By their dates, they were created every night when
I did Shut Down, for a period of 40 nights.

So I'm guessing
Snow Leopard creates these alias names, adding an incremented numerical
suffix to the volume name, for some reason, at certain times.
Then when BIAB browses for volume names, it always looks for the LAST name on the some list,
and that list is changing every day, so ... yesterday's name
that I entered in BIAB yesterday, does not exist today.

I tried changing my LaCie drive standby setting to where the
LaCie drive just stays on all the time, instead of going to
standby when the computer is asleep or shutdown. This
action did not solve the BIAB RealDrums/RealTracks pathname
problem at all.

Thanks for any help with this. Including ... where to
look for help if not here.

Um, do you happen to have TWO drives named LaCie? OS X will typically start adding numbers after Volumes that have the same name. For example, if I have two volumes named MacHD, it will call one of them MacHD 2 unless one of them is external. That is the only time I've seen OS X do this.

You should probably run DiskUtility on all your drives to make sure something is not messed up on them.

ericdano, this was helpful, thank you, I ran diskutility, no problems found.
I started looking and realized that it's not BIAB that's changing the
drive's pathname every day but more likely OS X, as you pointed out.

That really shouldn't happen though. I have an external HD I shuttle between home and my studio and I haven't had it do that. Like I said, the only time that has happened is when I had TWO drives named the same.

So, I suspect that you might have two drives named the same? I dunno. You didn't list enough stuff to pinpoint what is wrong and why OS X is doing that.

Well this issue is not totally resolved, but I did delete all the
'folder' type copies of my LaCie drive in the /Volumes folder
and TODAY BIAB came up without telling me that my external
drive wasn't found.

How do I change the forum icon from 'open book' to a basically
closed issue?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
