My 4 year old desktop Gateway's motherboard went south. Ive ordered a HP Pavilion P6313W. I figured since I was going to have to reinstall all my programs on the new machine, it would be a good time to update from 2009.5 to 2010.5. Will I have to reinstall my 09.5 to get the 10.5 upgrade to load?
Also, Everything was going along fine with XP. Should I expect any problems with Windows 7 ?
thanks Martin

In my opinion, No and No.
The only reason I can think of to reload 2009.5 first, then 2010.5, would be if you received any extra "pacs" that came with 2009.5 as a special at the time.
Your Windows 7 - is it 32-bit or 64-bit? The VSC, if you were using that, doesn't work in 64-bit, but there is a Coyote Wavetable workaround.

Hey Martin. You should be able to just install the 2010.5 fine. I assume you'll be getting the HD version? BTW I live 100 miles West of you. Any gigs in Asheville or west of Asheville for a guy doing Country and Oldies R&R solo with RB? I set up my friends computer with Win7/64 and had no problems. Sometimes disabling UAC helps a lot with issues. PM me if you have any info on gigs. Thanks

The HP will have the Win 7 Home Premium 64 installed. I don't use the vsc anymore, since I got RB. Just use the biab midi to get my song structure down, then use all RTs. I assume the vsc doesn't apply to RTs, only midi. Is this correct?

Yes, the VSC and the Coyote Wavetable only apply to MIDI.
Just FYI, when you say you are using "BIAB MIDI', you must have been using something - the Microsoft MIDI Mapper, the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, the VSC, Coyote Forte (not free) - but something. BIAB does not have a "native" MIDI player; you had to have selected one.

I was either using MS GS Wavetable or my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card.
Also I have always wondered if the updates supply most of the past biab styles. It seems in the past when loading new releases onto a new machine I would have to go to my ext hd bakup and copy over lots of styles from past releases that were missing. Is it best to let those old ones go? Have they been replaced by similar but better ones?

I think it's a combination. There are some bonus 'pacs' that are not carried forward, and that's what I referred to in my earlier post Everything else, though, is, to my knowledge. Plus, within the last year, some of the older styles got a makeover anyway.

Well, the VSC or Wavetable DXi synths only apply if you want to hear MIDI, BUT -- if you want to use the Automatic Render function, you need to have a DXi synth of some sort installed. The Coyote WT that ships with BB now is free and will do that for you.

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
