Hi folks.

Is it possible to have multiple instructions going on per chord entered. For example...

bar 1 is it possible to have a c chord that is held for the piano, guitar and strings, but rested for the drums?

It's quite common to want to have this type of configuration if a song has a slow start.

Similarly with stops. You might want a stop on all instruments but the drums for example, but have the drums rested.

I hope I've explained myself OK, I'm not great with music theory which is something I'll be addressing as time goes by.

Cheers
Darren

Hi.

Thanks for the fast reply.

However, in the example I mentioned I want all instruments held on the first note apart from the drums which I'd like as a rest.

So, for the first bar of the track, you have a held bass and chords with no drums.

Or have I misunderstood your explnation?

Cheers

Hi Darren,

If I'm reading you correctly, try
  • right-click on the bar that you want to modify (bar 1)
  • select "Chord Settings..." from the pop-up menu (Alt-F5 is a shortcut for this)
  • in the "Chord Options" box that you will arrive at, under "Rests" set the "Rest Type" to "Hold Chord"

This should hold all instruments (including drums).

If you want the drums to rest for the bar, now right-click on bar 1, select "Bar Settings...". Under "Instrument changes/Volume" choose "Drums" and select "Mute". If you want the drums to return at bar 2, you will need to right-click on bar 2, select "Bar Settings..." and set the volume "Back to Normal".

Hope this helps or, at least, gives you some ideas that might lead to a solution.

Regards,
Noel

Hi folks.

Many thanks, I'll have a play and see what happens.

Loving this software.

It's come at the right time as well as my music production computer's in for repair so I'm running it from the hard drive with my standard system.

Cheers

Hi Darren

i don`t think it will be easy,to hold a note (s) over a bar you would only be able to do this with the string track and the Melody and Soloist tracks as none of the other tracks would do this,Bass,Piano, and guitar would play the first note and then disappear if you was going to use a organ this might work, tricky is it not, anyway goodluck hopefully someone else may come up with a idea

regards Dave

Hi.

I've already been able to get bass, piano and guitar to hold over a bar, so I'm not having trouble with that.

Gonna try the previous suggestions now.

Hi folks.

OK, that advice about chord options and muting the drums worked a treat.

Really adds something to an arrangement if you can use those rests, stops, pushes and holds in your tracks.

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers
Darren

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
