Just when I think I'm ready to make a decision on a useful bRowser, the one I choose blows it!!
OS-wise its XP-SP3 and likely to so remain until I change computer.

My main issue with Firefox is that it won't play embedded MP3 files UNLESS Quicktime is installed - I can't stand QUicktime 'cause once you've got it, it's almost impossible to eradicate. Firefox will play embedded WMA files using WMPlayer. There is supposed to be an add-on for Firefox to play embedded MP3s with WMP...but I can't get it to work. I use FF 3.6.7 - any higher than 3.7 then FF stalls me with "unresponsive scripts" which I haven't been able to solve, and is slower to get to work than a bureaucrat on the public purse.

Current problem: FF asked me to upgrade Adobe Flash to 10.1.85x. I did, so far so good. Turned off and rebooted puter.

I also upgraded IE7 to 8 and then thought I should give it a try after rebooting - may as well have both BOWSERS working. Loose term "working" . So I decided to visit PG using IE8. It tells me that PG Music wants me to install Adobe Flash add-on! HUH? $%#@ But I just did, you moron!! Why can't you tell that??? Does each BOWSER want it's own version now?

Anyone know what's going on?? The funny thing is that this is on Music Computer, so I seldom go on-line except for music issues. Sheesh.

Ian

Ian,

I'm running IE8 and Google Chrome on Win 7 64 and IE8 on XP SP3 32, (dual boot sytem). I've never had a problem with either.

Google Chrome may be a little faster, (we're talking milliseconds), but I prefer IE8.

No Quicktime. I despise it too.

I use IE8 at work, and firefox at home (linux OS) Both are great. Firefox works better to me on the linux system. I had it before on Windows and it was always lacking somthing. IE for all the griping folks do, does a very decent job once it is configured for what you do.

Let the thing have it's Flash install and it will quite bugging you.

Good point. I always let it do the automatic updates on Flash. Quick and painless. I think IE8 gets a lot of grief from folks who simply gripe because it's a Microsoft product, not because there's anything wrong with it.

The only reason I have Google Chrome is because my son wanted me to try it. Good browser, but again I prefer IE8, probably because of familiarity.

Well, yes you installed Flash, but you installed Flash for Firefox. IE8 uses a different way of installing Flash, than Firefox. Just do it; it probably took longer to write and complain about it than just installing it. I have both IE8 and Firefox on my computer and they both work pretty well, but in general, I use Firefox for most things.

I use WinAmp to play my MP3 files with Firefox, even though I have QuickTime installed. I just had to tell Firefox to use WinAmp instead of Quicktime.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

"Let it have its way" - and you're probably right about the time taken - but I find out stuff.
And you're all a wealth of knowledge. How did you tweak FF to use Winamp? Simple as that?
I swear I did everything - the whole embed thing worked fine with FF 2.x and WMP9. Then MS changed something internally with 10 & 11.

"Let it have its way." Reminds me of an old Readers Digest humour piece. On the set of a commercial they had an old maned lion for an exotic commercial in a jungle setting with some beautiful girls. All of a sudden as the lion viewed proceedings he started to look alert, possibly remembering days of "bygone escapades", began to quiver and leaped across the set to land on his trainer and make passionate love to him - the director said - What do you want us to do? - to which the trainer replied - for god's sake let him finish.

I shall indeed let MS have its way . . . again

Thanks guys. Ian

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
