I've been using Band In A Box since the beginning. I think it's an amazing program for musicians, teachers and students. I teach music at a university and require my students to have it.

My issue with PG music is that BIAB does not feel like a Mac program. The transport and various function buttons are in un-Mac like places. The look of the program is un-Mac-like. The user interface is very clumsy and not smooth as opposed to most Mac music programs. There hasn't been a Mac upgrade for a few years. I know that there are many Mac users of BIAB who feel the same way I do. Please do a Mac overhaul to this fantastic program!

Peter has told us that they are working hard on the new Mac BIAB version and to expect a release sometime in the first quarter of 2008, so stay tuned.

That's about all we know at this point in time, other than Mac users have also been promised as many of the PC features as possible to implement.

Stay tuned to this website and forum for more info as it comes in.

excellent news

- of particular interest would be easy export to Garageband, and the ability to use garageband instruments

I'd also love to see midi importing capability, something available in the Windows versions for many years now!
Also, it's well into the first quarter of 2008, and am still awaiting word of an upcoming BIG Mac update.....

The previous entry was 3/10/08 and now " 'Tis Autumn". "Early Autumn". I had to switch to the Mac for stability problems 3 1/2 years ago and continually rue that day regarding BIAB. . The face of the PC program is better. Although I have electronic tuners, it was nice to have one on the screen. I would like to be able to edit the "favorites" window" . There was so much, I have suppressed much of what was not included in the Mac X OS.
Please, Good Doctor Peter, a really new and improved Mac version would be such a pleasant surprise for (the Holidays) the almost annual end-of year update.

I agree that an easy export MIDI to GarageBand or Logic would attract a lot of Mac users. GarageBand is good, but it can't do what BB does, i.e. generate chord progressions and solos in a matter of seconds. Then from GarageBand > MP3 or ACC > iTunes > iMovie or iPhoto. Would be a great way to make background music for home videos in iMovie or slide shows in iPhoto.

I´m using BIAB 2008 on a Mac with Windows XP and Parallels virtualisation software. Works a dream. Admittedly it´s the only application I still need Windows for, but the improvements that have gone into BIAB on Windows over BIAB 12 makes it worth it.

humbug; I do exactly what you want: generate midi files in BIAB 2008 that I import into GarageBand or Logic Pro for further development.

Hello, T. Tenmann,
I'm a mac user and really want to get BIAB, but with RealTracks, because am not too keen on midi. I have a macbook with 2GB of ram, yet have never tried Parrelles or Fusion, my question is do you need to have Windows as well as either of these to run a BIAB 2009 for example? Sorry if that seems a stupid question, but have no idea concerning non mac stuff. That would mean having to buy windows xp as well I take it, I ask because that's becoming a pricey option for only one program, though I just can't get my mind around using midi tracks, my purpose is just practicing jazz. Thanks a heap for any input

Hey Scottelwood

Yes - you will need to have a copy of Windows as well as Parallels or Fusion to run BIAB 2009.

Just so you know, I know other people have reported success with the windows emulating programs like Fusion and Parallels but I found BIAB to be really 'glitchy' when using these programs.

I'm still weighing up whether to just BOotcamp my Macbook or wait for the new Mac version.

Hope that helps.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
