Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I've posted anything...

I just got myself a BOSE L1 Model II with a T1 ToneMatch.
I've been using a KETRON SD2 and a TASCAM USB 144MKii Audio Interface for my Desktop PC to play my guitar along with BIAB.

I also just got a new 15.4" Laptop (Sony VIAO w/P6000 processor & 4Gb RAM) so I can use it when I do a gig with the BOSE L1... it has Windows 7/64 Home Premium.

I realized that the T1 ToneMatch essentially functions like an "Audio Interface" if I hook it up to my Laptop via USB. That should eliminate the need for me to carry around another Audio Interface (the TASCAM USB 144....), But the TASCAM also has a MIDI OUT to which I usually hook up my SD2... Instead, I am thinking to purchase the $39.00 M-UNO USB/Midi adapter (for sale at PGMusic) to do that task. That way I can hook up the SD2 to my Laptop, and finally, I can run a "Stereo RCA to two 1/4 inch Jacks" Cable to connect the LINE OUT from the SD2 to the T1 ToneMatch's Channels 4&5 (the only Stereo Input into the T1).

1. Has anyone used the Bose L1 w/ToneMatch with BIAB?
2. Will BIAB recognize the ToneMatch as an "Audio Interface" as my Audio Driver?
3. Would there be an issue with 48bps vs 44bps (or whatever that is?) or can I set the two to the same rate?
4. Would the KETRON SD2 work fine with this UNO Midi cable? (I've heard some poeple have had problems...)
5. Any other problem to be expected? or Solutions to be offered by anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Dick

I have the same setup.

1. The Bose via USB runs fine as the audio device from Win 7 /64. It is mono though.

2. The Ketron I run into 2, there is really no stereo. For simplicity I had the mic into input 1. But that was through a Voicelive.

3. The Ketron is RCA to 2 rca to mono phone plugs I got at Best Buy.

4. My keyboard goes into 3.

5. My AKAI EWI goes into 4.

You can setup the line 4 to control the input from the computer and add effects.

I have the midi Edirol 1 in 1 out I got from PG music. Next day shipping if in stock. Works fine with Band in a box.

I've let 2 of my friends use the setup, on has a family band with 3 kids ages 4 to 7, they bought one after using mine.

The other is a guy who does light jazz gigs with a vocalist and keys with a guy on upright bass. They use the bose as their amp.

Both are happy as am I.

So in short, yes the midi works fine, mine goes from my keyboard thru the computer out to the vocal processor thru to the ketron. I can select and use the upper banks on the ketron no problem. Band in a Box is set to sen midi chords to the vocal box on Midi 5. That works, it changes chord display as intended and harmonizes.

In short it all works, on Win 7, 64 bit, same Ketron, Edirol USB midi device etc.

Some messing around to get your presets they way you want them, effects on channels, reverb levels, volumes but that 's normal. I redid the output volumes on everything with all the bose channel knobs at 12 o'clock and my keyboard at 50 percent volume and the volumes on the band in a box instruments preset the way I want them.

My only current problem is that since I bought it I'm "profoundly" deaf in the upper registers according to the audiologist and I have to get my wife to help me with levels and bass/treble balance.

And second, the stuff I was preparing to do is on hold, until I hopefully recuperate from neck cancer far enough to get back in the swing.

Oh, and I also use the 4th input with the same cable from my mp3 player. I'm presently working on putting christmas sets on one of them (mp3 player) and the other one will be Robbie Burns night stuff. The Burns nite stuff is done from Music Time Deluxe because I can't figure out compound duple/triple/quadruple in Band in a Box. Or so the wife says, and she's the one with 5 years of University Music. Damn woman. She met a friend from university the other day who tells me she was one of the best bassoon players the prof had ever had. I look at her and say "bassoon, you never told me." She says, it's just like an oboe...so I find out she plays both...along with pretty much any band instrument. Oh well. She can't play freaking accordion at all, an she comes back, "who wants to ..." damn woman.

A neat trick. Audacity, free download. Set the Bose as the recording device in Audacity. Fire up a small window in Audacity and click record. Start Band in a Box. Whatever goes in the Bose, ie keyboard, mics, etc. and Band in a Box goes out to a track on the Bose.

Export the Band in a Box file clicking on wav to your desktop.

Import that track (stereo) into Audacity.

Merge the 2.mess with putting the drums in the middle, the mono track in the middle and pan instruments left and right. Some interesting results and sort of instant gratification....

Hi John,

Good to hear you're doing better and better with your Cancer. I've been following your posts about it and I wish you all the best for a full recovery, so you can get back in the swing ASAP.

And thank you for a detailed reply as usual, your dedication to this FORUM is much appreciated.

I just hooked up my Laptop to the T1 via USB and it is like you said... working just fine. Although I am not quite sure what you meant by being able to "setup the line 4 to control the input from the computer and add effects". I'd have to look more into that... as generally speaking, I still need to learn how to mess around to get my presets the way I want them, effects on channels, etc.

Also I didn't know one could take the RCA output from the Ketron and combine it into one 1/4" mono Jack (like a "Y" Cable) in order to plug it into just one of the T1 Channels... [Is MAC OK with that? LOL. I thought I remember reading somewhere he doesn't like to do that....], that's why I was thinking of using Ch 4&5. Maybe I misunderstood what he wrote.

And thanks for the tip about Audacity.

[btw, I think your wife must be a saint, LOL...]

There are 2 options for stereo rca jacks. One is to put an adapter in that has 2 rca's on the top and the one 1/4 mono jack. Those can be hard to find. The other is to use 3/4. If you can find an XLR to rca adapter you can also use that on 1 2 and 3.

With only the one L-1, your stereo signal from the Ketron would be summed to a mono output anyway, so why tie up two input channels?

The Y cable will do exactly the same thing for you. Sum to mono. Only difference is that the summing happens in the Y cable instead of inside the Toneport.

Absolutely agreed.

It is a blessing if you have a spouse who takes that "for better or worse" thing seriously, eh?

Hang tough, John.

Hi MAC, good to hear from you!

And thank you (and John) for the reply... I understand things much better now. I'll need to play it the L1 now to figure out my favorite settings.
