I've got Band-in-a-Box for Windows Version 2011 (312). I've got a song that I put together that uses RealTracks, but when I open it, the RealTrack settings can't be used. The track names ("Bass", "Piano", etc.) show up as yellow text, indicating the tracks are MIDI. However, the dropdown menus for the tracks indicate that they still have the RealTracks associated with them. If I do a song memo, the RealTracks display there as well. If I attempt to regenerate the track, it displays a message indicating the track was regenerated and immediately begins to play - but there's no RealTrack generated for the track. I also can't erase the tracks. Saving the file and bringing it back doesn't fix things. I've managed to bork several files this way. I suspect the root cause is that I uses the "Save +" option to save the files, although I can't duplicate the error... I've tried rebooting, but that didn't clear the problem.

Hi David,
This is a curious problem. Have you tried resetting to factory settings under Opt?

Also, if this happen just with that one songfile, it is likely that the file is corrupted.
You would have to hit New and start building the song all over again.

Also update version 313 is out - never hurts to stay current. It might help.

I've not reset the settings, because I don't see the behavior with other files.
I cut and paste the chord progression into a new file, and rebuild the song, but I've still got the old file. This happened with two of my files last night, but not every file. It's consistent with those files, as well as copies of those files. So I believe that the file's been corrupted.
But the files didn't become "magically" corrupted - it's much more likely there's a repeatable logic bug. It seems likely to be a settings conflict of some internal flags that are allowed to be set, but never unset.

The exact same thing just happened to me on all the song that I used the SAVE+ The yellow warning message says the program can't find the location of the realtrack folder. But it finds it fine for any new piece or for an older song that I just saved normally. I'm up against a deadline and I can't believe I've lost my work!!!

P.S. in my case it's finding and playing the RealDrums and RealSoloist tracks correctly but not the other RealTracks for the combo, even though all the RealTracks are in the same directory!

Can you tell me how to do that? I can't seem to copy the tempo and volume settings from one song to another, only the chord changes.
BTW the mystery deepens. When I opened this problem track in RealBand, it ONLY played the combo parts (which BB couldn't "find") and did not play the RealSoloist & and RealDrums (which BB could "find" and play),

I may have found one (but not the only) likely cause of this problem: the SAVE+ button. It has no business being there at all in the latest versions. According to the 2010.5 PDF manual (p.182):
By default all settings are saved with songs unless the “Save all Settings with Songs” box is unchecked (off) in the Assign Instruments and Harmonies to Song dialog (Alt+F2 or File | Save Song with Patches & Harmony). This includes RealTracks, RealDrums, and RealTracks solos as well as Patches, Volume, Audio and MIDI Reverb, Tone, Panning, Bank, Harmony (both Melody and Thru), and the Soloist. If you have some custom items that you don’t want to save with the song you can uncheck the “Save all Settings” box and use this dialog to save only the settings you want to keep.
Now here's where we (or at least I) can easily screw up when pressing the SAVE+ button when using RealTracks. When looking at all the check marks on the left side of the Assign Instruments and Harmonies to Song dialog it is VERY tempting to uncheck all those boxes next to all those irrelevant looking MIDI patches. DON'T! Apparently that severs the connection to the RealTracks in your song.
I did say that this is not the only cause of the file-corruption problem, but I'll get to that later, after I have time for more verification.

Odd, I use that button 10 to 20 times a day and I don't mess with it, but usually check the bottom thing in the list and add the patches in the soloist.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
