I would like to set my volume and pan levels, then open up different songs and then have my volume and pan levels stay the same.
Why you ask? Because I'm using a mixer. I'd like to pan the bass to -63 then the drums to 64... then plug that into my mixer using a split stereo cable... then be able to control the volume of my bass and drums via my mixer. Ya dig?
Why can't I do that? Here's what I'm doing: In BIAB in pref 2, I unchecked OK to save/load rev/vol/chorus w/songs. THEN... in MIDI settings unchecked overall volume changes and style volume changes.

STILL... when I change songs, the volume on everything changes to 90, and I get all these panning settings (-20, 20, -20) that I did not put in there.

Again... all I want to be able to do is set my volume and panning levels and have them stay fixed no matter what song I pull up.

Ya?

Greetings: I am also having these same type of issues. It would be nice to have a master mixer inside BIAB, that does not change from song to song. Or at least, not lose all the mixer settings when loading new songs.

Haven't you tried to freeze all tracks once your arrangement is done? Here it works.

No, no... then I'd have to go in and edit all of my songs individually. I don't want to have to do that. I used to be able to do what I wanted. In the MIDI option box, where you set the volume and panning, I would just uncheck that box for volume changes and it would work. Now it doesn't. I wonder if it's a bug... or a feature.
I dunno. HELP!

So this sucks... but I used keyboard maestro (the macro-keystroke program) and I just recorded a macro to open up my files and pan each track the way I wanted and set the volume for each track. It took about 10 mins straight of repetitive keystrokes. I probably gave my self carpel tunnel, but at least it's done and it works now.

I have the Windows version, and the SAVE + button saves all the settings for each individual song. The "Save Settings... " must be checked as well as the desired parts on the left.

HTH.

To quote the pop-up help in the Midi window in the mac version, "To prevent any volume changes within BIAB, uncheck this box." Well, that doesn't work. I think it might be a bug. I uncheck it... then when I load up my songs, each song still changes the volume to whatever it was saved with.
Anyways, stupid work around? I used a keyboard macro to re-save all my files with a new setting. Almost 200 songs. pretty annoying.

I have been using BIAB for the last 20 yrs. for my jazz gig. I presently use Mac 2010.5 Mac. Volume has always been the biggest problem. I try to use a small amount of styles and keep the same default mix but the volumes vary pretty radically. I play in a small restaurant (12 years now) and I don't have the option of resetting all my volumes for each tune. I play pretty soft and only use drums, bass and drums-all realtracks, but I have to constantly be adjusting the volume on my interface. It would be so great if this could be fixed. The volume on the congas are real loud. I don't get get it.

Kevin,
I feel your pain buddy. I'm playing in a restaurant with a piano player... and here's what I did that worked:
I used "keyboard maestro." It's a keystroke recording program. I had that program watch me (record my keystrokes) while I maxed out the volume on the bass and drums, then I panned the bass way left, and the drums way right, then I hit "Save." I then created a keyboard shortcut for that macro.. THEN... I went through ALL of my fucking BIAB songs and repeated that macro and I altered ALL of my BIAB songs.
So, in the end, I changed the setting on ALL my BIAB songs to max out the volume on bass and drums, then pan that out.

NOW... and here's the fun part... I use a cable that splits the audio out on my mac into a separate TRS cable plug for left and right... so I then plug the left and right's into my mixer... so now I can control the volume of the bass and drums on the MIXER! Win! So, I leave the BIAB volume all the way up, and I set the volumes on my mixer. Those pesky congas, and everything else, pretty much stays the same volume. I mean, I still tweak a little here and there with the mixer, but it pretty much works. We keep the volume low and tasty and have a nice gig... for your sushi eating pleasure.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
