I switched to a newer computer for my music. 6 core Athlon Phenom and Windows 7 64bit. I had BIB and all of my VST on a second drive on the old computer so I just put that drive in the new computer which I thought should have worked. BIB won't recognize the JABB VST. I reinstalled JABB and the VST instrument but when I go to add the VST to BIB it keeps saying that this is not a valid VST Instrument. I'm choosing the 64 bit version but I'm really puzzled. This is the latest ARIA engine by the way and I'm also using the latest BIB 2011 update. Any ideas?

BIAB is a 32 bit program and thus needs the 32bit VSTi I do believe & not the 64.

`Hate to bring this up but biab is general midi and in the past Jabb was not. I have the old original version. Hopefully the new interface is more compatible. The only thing that sounds as good is all the jazz real trax. I gave up on jabb and biab because it crashed every time I ran it. The Jabb piano, bass and real drums are very nice together. It was all I'd would have ever needed. But the people supporting the old interface were real jerks.

Here you go again, eh Ron? A guy who has no clue making more comments about something he knows squat about.

John, are you sure about this?

The BiaB product page states that BiaB 2011 is win 7 64 bit compatible. I’m thinking about upgrading my computer to win7 64 bit but this would be a showstopper for me.

Thanx in advance for your time - MarioD

Biab is 64 bit compatible but that doesn't mean a VSTi is. Two different things. A VSTi is a software instrument that must have a host. Biab is the host in this case. I don't have a 64 bit VSTi to test but I'm pretty sure John is right, Biab is a 32 bit program and most likely can't host a 64 bit VSTi.

This is yet another layer of confusion for users because most 32 bit programs will run fine on Win 7 64 bit. An example is my Sampletank. It's 32 bit and they have not yet released a 64 bit version but it works fine as a VSTi on a 64 bit system. As I've tried to explain to our friend Ron and given up on, we have to read this stuff carefully, keep ourselves up to date and turn ourselves into computer nerds in self defense otherwise none of us will have a clue. This stuff is constantly changing and evolving.

I'm right in the middle of this right now because I just bought a custom AMD Phenom 6 core with 4 gigs ram and Win 7 64 bit last weekend and I'm having just a wonderful time porting everything over (not). I've already run into some glitches that I had to chase down but it's all good so far. An example is one of my USB external HD's shows up in "my computer" but no data. I plugged it back into my XP machine and it's there. I was pulling my hair out until I found an online forum explaining you have to go into properties for the HD and switch it from the default "easy eject" which is a new Win 7 thing to whatever the other eject option is called (can't remember it now). I did that and voila' there's the data. Sigh. How's that for intuitive? Whaddya mean you can't simply plug in an external HD and read your data? What, you want easy??

I know there's more things like that to come.

I use the JABB 64 bit with Win 7 and BIAB 2011 without and problems. I also can set
the Mod wheel and save without problems. Hope this helps.

Thanx jazzmammal for the clarification. I was reading that BiaB was 64 bit native when in fact it is 64 bit compatible. I wish software companies would be more specific in that area. I was hoping to run 64 bit VSTi’s in it, but I see now that I can not do that.

Well, according to Dave you can. At least with JABB 64 bit. As I said I don't have a 64 bit VSTi to test yet and I'm not finished setting up my new box yet either.

I agree with your comment about the software companies could be more specific but what can they really do? They print the facts and they are usually fairly cryptic. Unless we read their statements very, very carefully it's easy to miss. When I start reading technical gobblydegook about something like this my tendency is to start skimming and you do too most likely. We can't do that. We have to force ourselves to slow down and slog through it line by line and really think about what does it mean to my exact setup. If you were to go through a tech spec page for a piece of software and put a mark next to each thing you don't really understand, guess what? You have to hit Google and read up on those points until you do understand.

Remember "the devil is in the details"? Miss one detail and you're off on the wrong track for who knows how long.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
