This is a feature I can really use:

"Pedal Bass is now supported for RealTracks."

Is this only supported for the latest RealTracks in 2011.5, or for all RealTracks?

It works on the older ones I have tried. Yes, it is great to have this feature now.

Not clear on above. I love jazz and soul organ but don't care for pedal bass vs electric bass or upright. Is it possible to eliminate the pedal bass sound that I am not aware of. Some of the new tracks are recorded without pedal bass? Thanks for any clarification.

Yes, some of the organ tracks are now available either way, which is great. This was yet another Wishlist suggestion that was implemented.

Jim, I found one other thing about pedal bass, some notes from PG Music during testing:

- Pedal bass feature implemented for RealTracks. If pedal bass is set via the chord settings dialog, the bass player will play pedal bass for RealTracks. No settings for this, it should just work. (note that holds need to be available for that RealTrack, and you can disable the feature for a song by disabling holds in the Song Settings dialog. [emphasis mine]

Pedal bass in this case is a musical term meaning one bass note that is suspended under different chords and rhythms. You're thinking of bass pedals as in organ bass, different thing. An example is Satin Doll that someone mentioned. The classic intro for that tune is a G pedal bass on 2 and 4 underneath the chord changes for 4 bars. The actual bass instrument is whatever you want. If you set it up using an acoustic RT, then it's an acoustic pedal bass, fingered electric bass same thing. It's used a lot for intro's or a vamp between verses, etc.

Actually, I was getting pedal bass mixed up with chord inversions. I want a RealTrack guitar and piano to play the bass movements of inversions, like "C C/E F F/A", and hear the bass stepping in each of these instruments along with the bass guitar. Is this an item for the wishlist?

Yes, that is a completely different topic from the two already discussed. The bass alone plays the slash roots. This is an item for the Wishlist.

EDIT I stand corrected: see the next post by Peter Gannon. Always good to learn something new.

Yes, they already do.

The guitar and piano will play those slash chords C/E
And the bass will play the bass notes of the slashes.

You can see a video demoing that here... http://screencast.com/t/YDHDpnSK

Thanks for all of the clarifications - my comment above was limitied solely to organ tracks with bass lines kicked by the pedals or sometimes the left hand. Still wish that all of the organ tracks were available without the organ bass but realize that would reqire double recording.

They are all now available without the bass, and yes, it involved new recordings.

The only ones that had bass to begin with were the jazz swing ones, and with 2011.5 we have versions of them that do not include the bass part (so you can have an acoustic bass)

Thumbs up.

So if you want a light beer, call pg music or put it in the wishlist. Seems everything gets consideration, and much of it just gets done!

Peter:

Thanks for video link. Just getting pedal bass and slash chords in RealTracks is worth the upgrade.

That is fantastic! Another very good reason to upgrade. I need to learn more about how to do this by watching the video. I wanted to to listen first then read the directions.

Blending the new jazz organ with the 70s Soul style was very cool! Plan to use the new style and jazz organ on "What's going On". Not sure if this style has congas but if not can add after the fact.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
