Hi all,

I'm curious if anyone else is having the same problem that I'm having.

I loaded in the style _CWALZPS.STY as shown below. When I generated the song, the pedal steel sounded very unusual. If you want to have a listen to what I mean, there's a download link for the rendered song below the image. (The rendered file sounds identical to the BIAB generation.)

LINK to rendered file containing problem Realtrack

For purposes of clarity, I have muted all instruments except drums, pedal steel and guitar when I rendered the file. The Realtrack's timebase is set at "Normal Time". Interestingly, I went to the folder that contained these RTs and they all seemed to play fine as wma files. Seems that something got lost in the translation from file to song.

Regards,
Noel

Is that style subtitled "helium" or anything?

Just for giggles, try playing it at 80 bmp and though the rest of it will sound like crap, just try it to see if the pedal steel is sped up too much. That is what it sounds like.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for having a listen. Pedal steel player on helium is a perfect description!! LOL

I slowed the track down as suggested and while it sounds better, it's still not a proper pedal steel sound.

Noel

Strange... this is what it usually sounds like... http://64.40.109.32/audio/allstyledemos/_CWALZPS.wma

Something strange likely set in the song file. Likel a half-time or double-time.

I just tried it generating a song in that style, and it sounded fine.

I'd recommend, choosing File-New, choosing that style, pressing PLAY, and see if things sound fine. If so, add chords and you should be OK.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, the problems persists. (By the way, this problem existed before I upgraded to 2011.5. I contacted support about it around 10 days ago.)

What I have tried so far is ...

1) Reset to factory preferences and rebooted the computer. Opened BIAB, selected “New” song, and loaded the Demo song for _CWALZPS.STY. (No change in sound.)

2) Re-installed Realtracks 118 – 121, given that this RT is part of that set. (Still no change in sound.)

Here's how the demo song for the above style sounds for me.

Link to rendered demo song for _CWALZPS.STY (500 kB file).

As you can see below, the timebase is set to normal.

Regards,
Noel

Very strange. I'm assuming that this issue affects this single RealTracks.
Perhaps Andrew @ PG Music has some ideas. I'll ask him tomorrow.

It sounds like it is playing the riffs, but each at twice speed. They start at the right place, but play fast (chipmunk speed).

What version of Windows Media Player are you using? Perhaps it decides that type of wma file differently?

Also, the wma files should be dated 11/29/2010 , is that what you have?

Hi Peter,

My wma files in the subdirectory \Pedal Steel, Rhythm CountryWaltz Sw 140 are dated 9/2/2010 and not 11/29/2010.

I purchased 2011 as e-delivery early in December last year and the date of realtracks118-121.exe is 12/7/2010 (the day I downloaded them).

After re-installing the RTs 118 - 121 before my last post, I neglected to update. I have since run the updates
  • realtracks1-121_update_full_feb04-2011.exe (1.26 MB)
  • realtracks1-121_update_feb04-2011_to_may03-2011.exe (14.9 MB0
After the above two updates, there was no change. The pedal steel still does not play correctly.

I mostly run Winamp and not Media player (although I have Media Player version 11 which I occasionally use.) I've found Winamp to be excellent with all the kbps and Hz that different audio files throw at it.

As mentioned, the wma files are fine when I play them by double-clicking on the file in its subdirectory. It's only when the files are utilized in a song that the chipmunk sound occurs.

Thank you for taking so much time with my problem. I appreciate it.

Kind regards,
Noel

Hello Noel,

I tried playing that style in my 2011 ultrapak and it seems to be playing ok,seems to be quite a nice style as well so I added it to my favourites.

Very puzzling why it doesn't play right for you, wish I could think of something to try, unless trying a different softsynth to see how it plays (though that shouldn't have a bearing as its an audio file)

hope you get it sorted.

joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for trying it out. Appreciate it. I suspect it has something to do with the mismatch of dates on the file. Time will tell.

Once again, thanks,
Noel

Hi Noel,

What sound device are you using and what drivers selected for it?

If using ASIO sound drivers, make sure that the sound device's Control Panel is not set to a locked bitrate, but instead is set to allow any host program to access and change the bitrate.

Do you have any other audio program open at the same time, or immediately before opening BIAB, such as an audio sequencer? Is it also set to ASIO drivers? Sometimes another host can set the soundcard to a different bitrate than the only one BIAB uses, which is 44.1KHz.

This type of thing can also happen when using MME Windows Sound drivers and certain sound devices that have their own feature set such as a "Karaoke" control that readjusts bitrate on the fly in order to transpose audio to the singer's key. Sometimes the settings in those things change themselves and you could get this kind of result. Other sound devices, such as Creative cards that use the EAX effects, the EAX can get turned on and will apply to all Audio played back as well.

I think this is the key to the problem. Please contact support@pgmusic.com, referencing this thread, and we can send you a link to a current version of that RealTracks set, and then we'll have the same files...

Hi Mac,

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm pretty sure that my settings should be ok but now that you've reminded me about them, I'll go and double-check. I didn't do that!

Noel

Hi Peter,

Thank you. I have just finished downloading and installing Realtrack 121. The pedal steel now sounds exactly like it should.

You've built an exceptionally outstanding company and I know of none other (local or internet) that compares with your integrity, efficiency and service.

I really appreciate your help with this problem.

Kind regards,
Noel

Glad to hear it got fixed with the newer wma files. I think those older ones for that particular RealTracks got encoded with a different encoder, and caused this problem.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
