I have the two common Dxi synths: Forte and Coyote WT. Right now, I have the Coyote Dxi at Port 17, and the Forte Dxi is at port 32 (the Default Position). Output driver setup: GS Wavetable, Re-Route Midi playback is checked, Forte Dxi is in default position. I also have a little four-track Midi file, all BB tracks:
I start the midi file playing - I get no sound - I go to the Port selection window, and I click on which-ever Dxi synth is not shown in the tracks windows WHILE THE SONG IS PLAYING - I get sound, and I can spread it to all tracks. I stop the play and re-start the song - again, No Sound - until I once again go to the Port selection window and select the opposite Dxi synth WHILE THE SONG IS PLAYING.
It seems that the only way I can "Kick-Off" the Dxi synths is to invoke them While The Song is Playing. Has anyone seen this before?

I have not. Have you tried resaving the song with the synth assignments?
What happens if you remove the prot 17 synth? I wonder if it's because you have 2 Coyote synths running? Do you have another to try? Why would you prefer the Coyote DXi over the Coyote Forte? Maybe even try two instances of Forte (one at 32 and one in 17) to see what happens then. The Coyote DXi is a 'wrapper' type synth and may not be playing nice with others.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Did you get my email? I played your file fine but since it's a .seq file, it has the port assignments written in. I changed the port from 17 to 1 which for me is my Sonic Cell. Then in the same track area as the port number is "set all midi tracks to the Roland Sonic Cell". Yours will say whatever synth you have selected for Port 1. I clicked on that and all the tracks played. When I saved the file it rewrites the port and synth selection.
Since the Forte is a DXi you can also go into Options>Properties>Midi Devices and select the "reroute all to DXi synth" and in the combo box below that checkbox highlight your Forte Dxi or CoyoteWT as the default synth and that should do it.

Note to Bob: Yes I received the helpful Email, Thank You Very Much I'm still working the issue. rharv, I never thought about removing Coyote Wt, it just came with Biab, and I tried to use it. I will remove it from my system, and see if that stabilizes my non-starting Dxi issue.

I have deleted Coyote WT from my system in order to rule out the potential for conflict between Coyote WT and Forte Dxi.
Unfortuneatley, on this particular unique small Midi-to-Sequence file, the strange "no sound until I change port assignments on a running file" anomaly still exists. It's a puzzler. I must leave town for about a week, starting tommorrow. I will follow-up on this thread when I return ...

Here's another thing to try; probably not it, but worth the try. I had generated a couple of songs where the MIDI wouldn't play properly with the DXi synths. Upon further investigation, I found the EXP knob on the track was all the way down. Turn it up and see if you get any sound. Don't know why it was that way. It was really weird because the song didn't play, but then I loaded an old song which played fine. I went back to the previously generated song and it didn't play. Just a thought.
On my computer, CoyoteWT and Forte peacefully co-exist, along with a couple of other synths.

They co-exist here also. The EXP knob issue (I think) was during Beta, I remember bringing it up there. I hope it is not doing that again.
Just checked; it is defaulting to EXP 0 in build 3 & 4. John may be on to something! I notci clicking File-New makes the EXP jump to 100%..
off to the bat cave

I set my prefs to open the last file used so this is a non issue. If I'm going to do another song I just click file NEW. All you really need to do though is open RB/file/new/file save as default template. It'll open and you'll see the EXP flip from 0 to 127. This is also handy to have a pre setup blank.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
